5 years with the highest paid non BCS coach in the country and we can't even stay on the same field as BU or A&M.
Please.
Ask any fan 5 years ago with JJ if we would be able to hang - not beat mind you- but hang with a BU or A&M and they would have said he'll yeah! Bring it.
We lose so many people next year. Margus Hunt is a miracle. Not may world clas athletes lose their funding, are forced to play football to keep their trac coach, and actually are successful.
We should have beaten TCU - suspension, injuries, depleted roster. This should have been a win.
I can only hope that JJ retires with a sense of grace or his buy out isn't so big that it keeps us from getting a good coach.
We need to go the younger hungry route. JJ got us out of the cellar and we are at ground level.
Need a new guy to keep us from dropping back in the hole
Well said. I hope we put so much pressure on JJ, he decides to retire. What a dumb idea it was to extend his contract. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think this boneheaded move was done after he almost left SMU for ASU. That was real smart. Surely you would think there is an out clause in the contract. I can't believe how much money JJ makes. Bring in a hungry coach that wants to create something special here.

Additionally, it is scary to look at this roster without the seniors who are going to graduate next year. We're in for a long stretch of continued mediocrity. I guess for some, mediocrity is ok since we were sub-mediocre for so long. For me, it's not all that much more fun to be 0.500 than to be a doormat.
Pony boy would sign JJ again he consistently won 4 games overall each season..
Nope. I would give him the rest of this season before making any changes.

If he loses the next two would you consider lol, cause recruits aren't walking through the door so no loss there and our team really can't get any worst so not seeing what to lose

Maybe so, but there is no way in hell SMU fires a coach that goes 9-3

Even if 7 of those wins mean absolutely nothing for the future

Ok so I took some time today and here is my partial my wish list of potential Head coaches. what do you guys think.
Mark Helfrich, OC Oregon: Positives, Oregons offense has been rediculously good under him, He has done a good job producing QB's who set school records as a QB coach, and I think texas highschools produce a rediculous amount of the type of slash athletes that tould thrive at QB in his system. Cons, no ties to texas, proabably on plent of short lists already so you might have to through money at an unproven HC.
Todd Monken, OC Oklahoma State: Positives; OSU just reloads on offense every year, has good knowledge and ties to Texas recruiting. Has NFl coaching experience which is always a good sales pitch, 45 years old so still pretty young. Cons, again no Head coaching experience, might be riding the coattails of Dana Holgorsen (WVU head coach).
Josh Hueple, OC/QB at OU: positives Qb coach that got great production out of some top guys, young, knows texas recruiting. Cons: Young, never really been out of Norman, and its easy to look good driving a farrari.
Mike Stoops: Prositives: did well for what you ahve at AZ, Knows texas Recruiting from time at OU, Obvjously gives a Sh** which would be nice after June. Produced some big upsets with his teams over ranked opponents Cons: never really got Arizona into a conference threat, probably would hold out/bail for next major conference offer.

We don't need June to be fired to be rid of him. 9-3 would get some schools interested, we just need a damn deal to be consummated this time.

KIRBY SMART! He's young, has fire and passion, he's the type of coach that young people want to be coached by, plus he's a winner!

I don't put faith in Coordinators that work under a hands on coach in their area. Nick Saban is why that Defense is amazing, Kirrby is just a well paid cheerleader.

11 let the season play out a bit more
we lost the three we were predicted to lose.
admittedly we've looked pretty poor
but we hung in there with TCU
UTEP in my mind is a "must win".
But yes if we went 9-3 you just can't fire the coach
with that said i doubt we get anywhere near 9-3

I know but I feel 2 of them were beyond embarrassing, tcu actually might be more embarrassing consider they gave us the game and we still couldn't win. You are right we should wait but the thing with UTEP game is that if we win big deal, if we lose I might not be wearing SMU as much around my friends..

The truly sad thing is that RGT/Hart are content with 6-6 from here into eternity.

What do you base the Hart comment on? How do we know this is new Copeland?

"The dude brought us from two decades of losing, #113 out of 120 teams in win percentage to where we are now, #50 for the past three seasons. He deserves at least the rest of this season before you impale him on a pitchfork."
He deserves [deleted] other than the contractually agreed compensation!
