Put Your AD Hat On
There's no way JJ gets fired, even if he goes 1-11, but I'm starting to think there is a decent chance he'll look ahead and see the hole he dug and retire to the islands. So, I've put my AD hat on and created a list of coaching candidates I'd like to see dragged through here for interviews:
Known Quantities
Bobby Petrino - Hands down our best case remotely likely scenario (remote as in we know he's available). I'm sure he'll be a hot commodity for second tier programs (see Kentucky) across the country, so we might have to pony up to secure him. I doubt conservative Turner would sign off on this hire, but with the JJ Hawaii rumors he no doubt vetted, you never know... Likeliness 3 out of 10.
TV Analyst w/ Skins on the Wall
Tony Dungy or Bill Cowher - These two would probably only return to coaching for a NFL job, and we might have to pay $10 million/year if they gave us the time of day, but if we wanted to take the Larry Brown route in football as well, these would be my top two choices...Likeliness 0.5 out of 10.
Young Gun Assistants
Kyle Shanahan - Current Offensive Coordinator for the Redskins, and my number one choice for the next SMU coach, but a huge long shot because he works with his Dad in Washington and wants to be a NFL coach. I think if we offered $2-3 million/year that might get his attention. I watched his professional career blossom with the Texans and he was given a lot of credit for Matt Schaub's development as Kyle progressed from WR coach to QB coach and finally offensive coordinator. He's 32, has the pedigree and is a member of a coaching tree that is bigger than coaches three times his age...Likeliness 3.5 out of 10.
Kliff Kingsbury - Knows the area well since he has played and coached in Texas. We all know what he's done with UH last year and now Manziel this year. It's a bit of a risk since he's only been a coordinator for two years, but someone will grab him eventually and I wouldn't mind taking a chance on someone who's offense actually works. A big question mark would be who he would bring on board as a coaching staff. Probably the cheapest realistic option and we could use the the money we save on his salary to surround him with high dollar competent assistants...Likeliness 5 out of 10.
Who else should we be looking at for the next coach?

Still suprised the best Gus Malzahn could do was Arkansas State? I would think we could get him if we want him.

I think La-Monroe Coach Todd Barry has to be on the list.
I also think assistants from DeSoto, Trinity and Skyline would be helpful.

Re: Put Your AD Hat On
Barry is 11-17 at LA Monroe (40-76 overall) and doesn't have a great background (coached at Ill. State and Army). I think that is a very suspect candidate at best. If you can't win at a lower division/conf. school, why would it be any different here?

SMU isn't getting another cent from me until June Jones is gone.
Back off Warchild seriously.
Re: Put Your AD Hat On
I think you have to put Willie Taggart on that list; he has done some really impressive work at WKU (2-10 year one; 7-5 year two...7-1 in conference, and 3-1 this year with only loss to Bama and they played Bama better than anyone thought they would).
He is a very good recruiter (pulling in better classes than we are) and he is young and hungry. I think, behind Chad Morris, he is the second best reasonable option.

WE can't get a decent coach because everyone in Arkyland knows that all available coaches (those mentioned above (and Gruden) are just dying to be the next Beloved Razorback coach. Honestly, the only group more delusional than us is the folks here in Arkyland.
Guess that says a lot about me that all my friends and neighbors are delusional. I must have an Axis I diagnosis.

StallionsmodelT - i will be sure to contact the finance department and make sure they know so that they can budget accordingly. I am sure that will really effect things over there.

It will affect it if many have the same approach. I for one will continue to donate to the university but no longer donating to the MC. It won't move the needle much, but we have to voice our displeasure through various means. Otherwise, how are changes ever made, and I firmly believe we need a new football coach. He should have been fired after his stunt with ASU. I'm still shocked he's here.

So I'm a maroon for calling a spade a spade?
We are in YEAR FIVE of June Jones. YEAR FIVE and we can't stay within 40 points of Baylor and A&M. Its not like we were playing Alabama or USC. We have spent exactly ZERO weeks in the top 25 and the recruiting class this staff is assembling is Sun Belt level. We hired JJ to bring his high flying offense to SMU. However, most of our wins have been b/c the defense has bailed out June's joke of an offense.
Keep patting yourself on the back for beating teams like Rice and Tulane who won't have a football program in ten years.

It'd be neat to get someone from the Jim Harbaugh coaching tree once June retires. I really like the way Stanford plays.
Also, Ramon Flanigan's still coaching.
