was SMU ever dallas' team - even during the '80s? I've heard from the older generation that attendance was still relatively poor during that time period. I feel like SMU has a real problem appealing to the masses in Dallas, and for that reason, I don't ever see SMU being the team of dallas, and always playing second fiddle to UT/AtM or whoever else.

Metroplex of 5 million people. We do t need to be THE team, just A team. 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th fiddles are all more than half the college teams out there

well we aren't going to be ahead of Texas or A&m, probably not texas tech or baylor. TCU will almost always be ahead of us, especially if they are in Big 12 and we d!ck around in the big east. So we are hoping for 5th most coverage in the metroplex. I guess that is ok.

Just put out a better product! The fact that we're putting out a piss-poor, boring, ineffectual offense is really hampering our market growth. Cowboys and UT are in down years, pity we aren't putting up 50+ pts per game.

If there was a year to take advantage of things, this is/was it.

Attendance back in the 80's wasn't great, but it wasn't bad either. Probably 30,000 showed up for games against Grambling, North Texas Community College, Tulane, etc, etc...Sellouts when UT, A&M, Arkansas came to town.
Not anything like the 10,000 to 15,000 that show up against Houston or UCF. The "death penalty," plus the lack of support from the SMU administration{ looking at you Dr. Kenneth Pye}, killed off 15-20 years of local or casual fan support.

We win the BE in 5 years (competitive in years 2-4). Then Pac-16 baby! I WILL see us win the Rose Bowl before I die. The way I figure it, I have about 30 years left to see it happen (unless, you know, I get hit by a truck before then or something).
