Beyond that, the guy seems to love SMU and bought 2 boxes worth of stuff at the bookstore yesterday (when it was already clear that the Big East was falling apart).
I think we have found our coach until he decides to retire...which could be after this season for all I know.
Even if he does retire after this season, it will still have been worth it. He has set the wheels in motion.

In the long run SMU likely ends up in either a Conference or Division we might call the SEC2. That's where this is headed-maybe not today-maybe not tommorrow but eventually. SMU will either sink or swim with its own fanbase determining whether it is an economically viable scenario.

The worst part of the whole thing is that the swindle involves so-called institutions of higher learning. Even academics can't resist the corruption of big money. Student athletes my [deleted]. I see one more of those NCAA commercials showing former athletes touting their academic accomplishments I will throw my shoe at the TV.

"Schools send out invitations from Top to Bottom-asking them to send money for admission fees. The ones at the top get all their money-really just theSEC and Big 10. The ones at the bottom pay their money in but never get what they were promised. At each level they pass the invitation down to next and the next pass it down to the next. All that is being done is that
the ACC becomes the Big East
The Big East becomes CUSA
CUSA becomes the Sun Belt
the MWC becomes the WAC
The Sunbelt and WAC become the Division 1AA
All the schools down the chain get fleeced of their money and not a single one of these 60 or so schools is getting what they were promised. Only the SEC and Big 10 schools are happy."
Actually, that's exactly right. Good analysis.
I started a thread on here a week or so ago entitled "There are only 2 power conferences." That's what this is evolving into. The SEC and Big-10 make the rules and get the most money. Everyone else (including ACC and Big-12) are forced to react and backfill when the SEC and Big-10 do something. Once the Big-10 and SEC make their next TV deals, you're going to see a lot of daylight between what they get and what everyone else, including the PAC, can get.

Wow what sh*t news. If Larry brown leaves I am giving up on SMU athletics altogether. This is just getting depressing.

Only would like this if there was a promotion/relegation system

look at the footprint of the SEC and start counting the best non-BCS schools. They will be in our Conference or if in a Division it would be a National Conference with a Big East/MWC blend.
Cincy
UH
UCF
USF
Southern Miss
SMU
Memphis
etc
I'll stop at 8 for a Divisional type situation but if there was no merger with Western schools you would keep adding

I'm still thinking PAC. Unless they can avoid going to 16 for another 13 years

Larry Brown isnt leaving and SMU hoops has a very bright future.
I know Caleen have you ever seen the campus in San Antonio. It looks like an ugly hospital complex right off 35. Its super fail.

Perhaps we could get lucky with ACC. Someone said Georgia Tech is looking at Big 10

Yeah, I've seen it. I've also seen their on-campus stadium:
