So much for all of that "They'll stay because of the money" bs.

Re: NY Post - It is official, Catholic 7 Leaving Big East
The life of an SMU fan. The minute we show signs of life and could be good at something (basketball), we get run over by a [deleted] mack truck.
I am starting to lose any interest in college sports. The playing field is so uneven that I really do not know if SMU will be able to ever compete.
Sad days my friends. Sad days.

"The Big East recently added a group of schools such as Boise State, Central Florida, East Carolina, Houston, San Diego State and SMU to bolster its football roster. Those schools might return to their respective conferences"
When are we going to catch a break?

We are not going to be in a conference with UTSA. We will form something nice with the Big East leftovers, minus perhaps Boise and SDSU

SMU
Houston
UCF
USF
Memphis
Cincinnati
UCONN
Temple
possibly add:
UMASS
Villanova (move up from FCS to FBS to appease UCONN and strengthen basketball in the league)
Talk to Georgetown about moving up to FBS as well.
Small, but solid conference. Keeps the Texas/Florida/Northeast markets. Add more as needed.

Well this is lovely.
Hopefully Larry won't leave because of it.

I like this plan. I like it more than I liked the Big East.

Wish the damn ACC would get raided already so they can backfill from BE leftovers. If they lose 6 we'll be in decent position to get an invite.

so now we are that conference that is looking for Division 1AA schools to jump to the next level. No thanks just create the Best of the Big East/MWC Conference and hopefully stay with theEastern side. Sooner or later we are likely going to be in the Great Southern Conference and that's not all bad for football at least

So the way I see this is you have four tiers and we're now in tier two. Here's hoping we can work out, probably under the aegis of the NBE, a regionally rational conference arrangement with those second tier schools and will not be forced to mingle with the tier threes we've just left behind.

If I read this correctly, the BB schools are leaving the BE and not dissolving it...right? If so then we still have a conference to work within. Depends upon the school presidents and conference commissioner to hopefully make this work out some way.
SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.
