Rating for SMU-Fresno State in Hawaii Bowl was more than three times higher in Birmingham than in SMU's hometown. Birmingham 5.6, Dallas 1.7

Maybe ACC or PAX 12 should go after UAB for that market

Isn't Birmingham the best market for College Football TV ratings (regardless of size). Still SMU did much worse in its own market than the game did across the Nation. We could see that thrown in our face in the future

This is exactly why everyone who thinks smu should automatically be included with the big boys because Dallas is a big city is insane. The truth is there are plenty of smaller cities that have more interested fans. Dallas is not a college sports town and certainly not interested in a mediocre college football team.

Birmingham was also recently named the least healthy place to live in the US for men - so they obviously do just sit around and watch the television a lot.

It will be bittersweet watching the BBVA Compass Bowl tomorrow though. Birmingham was such a great host last year and everybody I know had an awesome time. Hopefully, we will be in a bowl fans can attend next season!

For starters, are those rating not a percentage of the total population/TV viewers in the city. That could mean that you have more eyeballs but a lower rating right?

Also, this was still a game that no one cares about. Until we play anyone that is at all relevant in mainstream college football, no one is going to care in this city.
Thank goodness for bars and dvrs otherwise Hawaii bowl would have maybe 50 k actual viewers
No, that 2.4 million only counts DVR viewership until 3am christmas morning.
It also does not count any out of home (bars) viewing at all.

The bowl got good numbers for ESPN.

It was a plus for SMU.

Please take good news and be happy about it.

Meh, if you say so, Im not going to take the time to research how valid the numbers are. Im going to assume (relatively) we had bad number compare to the actual name bowl games. Even if this is considered "good news," its still nothing in comparisson to the uphill battle. Im just glad we are done going there, so we can actually go to the game!

You didn't go to the game in Birmingham, so why are you complaining about the game being in Hawaii?

They actually talked about this on I think the ticket today (Sunday). Apparently Birmingham significantly out rated all texas cities and was the number one ratings city for every single bowl Texas teams were involved in, except for the UT game (Birmingham was second in the country to Austin).

So, we weren't the only ones who saw this happen.
