June is a specialist, Timmy Chang is a specialist, Dan Morrison is a specialist...how many more flipping' RnS specialists could you want? Mouse Davis? Colt Brennan?

Actually, Manziel worked with "quarterback guru" George Whitfield, Jr.

I read TAMU brought in an expensive quarterback specialist to work with Manzell during the off season last year. Apparently, Manzell was throwing a lot of interceptions during practice and the specialist worked wonders with him. Will SMU do this for Gilbert? And how about hiring specialists to work with the wide receivers? Anybody know?

The coaches recruited all those players out there dropping passes, throwing interceptions and allowing sacks. They're also the ones responsible for teaching them to avoid those things. They're supposed to be the specialists.

But sometimes they need extra help one-on-one. I presume Sumlin recruited Manziel but he called him careless with the football. Manziel struggled with Spring practice even though Sumlin's offense was similar to what Manziel had run in high school. Recoginizing he had problems, Manziel went to San Diego to work with Whitfield. Whitfield streamlined Manziel's throwing mechanisms and showed him a different approach to throwing the ball. By Sept. Manziel was the starter and the rest is history. That's what I'm talking about. Getting our players the individual help they need to excel.

For someone who knows all about manziel's offseason work I would have thought you would know that sumlin did not recruit manziel.

Manziel was a redshirt freshman this year. Was not a Sumlin recruit. GC is correct in his assessment.

I am tired of this...It all starts with the coach....

Team flat at Tulane...

Team flat at Rice...

Last year..

Team flat at Tulsa

Team flat at USM

Sorry fans don't have anything to do with that..it's the COACHES fault.

fans have nothing to do with it? I assume you never played. If you did, I guess you had the same intensity in practice everyday that you had if you ever played in front of a packed house? It's a physical game and guys absolutely can draw energy from a rowdy crowd. I think that's why they invented the term "home field advantage". Not saying coaching doesn't matter, but the home crowd can affect both the players intensity and recruiting and our fans have really failed us. We all have classmates/former classmates who just don't care and the sad thing is that many of them are sports fans who don't even support their own school

The last 4 years SMU is 15-1 in C-USA games at Ford and 7-10 in C-USA road games. You'd think they'd play much better on the road since the crowds are so much better right?

You win for the first time in almost 10 years and you're chalking it up as a win in 2013. Talk about delusional.

SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.

At the U of A and later at LSU, it was never a question of if you where going to the game but a question of how early you were leaving for the game. This question was the same for both greeks and non-greeks. People cheered and the team was motivated. The coach was god. That's why Sabin is at the U of A and would never come to SMU.

I know the story because I live in San Diego. It was covered in the local news.

Probably a better idea to compare us with some private schools. What private schools have that type of atmosphere?

USC has a pretty good game day experience. Stanford too. Nearby me, even Wake forest does pretty well. Duke is aweful. Terrible stadium.
