Why do we go through this every game? BOTTOM LINE---it doesn't matter if there is one person or thirty thousand. The coaches are paid to do a job. They aren't getting it done. The players accept scholarships to do a job; they aren't getting it done. The fans neither play nor call plays. Audience doesn't matter.

I did not see anyone on this thread blaming the students for the outcome on the field. It is possible to be unimpressed with both the students and the coaches at the same time.I'm4Peruna wrote:Why do we go through this every game? If they are not indirectly blaming fans and students---why even bring it up? It is not of import to the outcome of the game. It is always used as a diversion from the real problem. I am tired of the name calling of our students and alumni. Way to build spirit!Grant Carter wrote:I did not see anyone on this thread blaming the students for the outcome on the field. Hey Mods===apparently you can't call out Jones personally, but it is OK to call everyone else Ps of S. Why is that not offensive and personal to the alumni base?

Students leave at halftime at every college, have you ever been to an SEC game? What's sad is that everyone's quiet on defense and loud on offense.

HART/TURNER - WE HAVE WORST STUDENTS in NCAA???
Like I said, people are able to have opinions about more than one thing at a time. If I say it was hot yesterday I am not indirectly blaming the heat for the result, it is just an observation. If someone comments that the cell phone coverage was horrific or the announcer was terrible, that does not mean they think it contributed to the outcome. Seems like the board would be pretty boring if no one could comment about anything other than things they think caused the loss.I'm4Peruna wrote:If they are not indirectly blaming fans and students---why even bring it up? at every college? watch the Clemson game tonight to see if the endzone hill (where students STAND the entire game) empties out after the 1st half. Not if the game is tied, it won't

I'm going to support our students for last night's game. We were in section 219 and it was nice to see students in white in the sections below us. They were waving their white towels and cheering. We left our section and moved over to the home side before half time to get away from the obnoxious tech morons....some, including the little girl next to me, actually booed the "mini Mustang" dance group.
I don't think we need to blame the student body for JJ's ability (or lack of) to put an exciting product on the field---consistently. Will they turn out for future games? I don't know. I know my husband told me it would be a long time before he goes to another game.

and in the 4th quarter the students were yelling out something and then pointing to the home side....no response.
Re: HART/TURNER - WE HAVE WORST STUDENTS in NCAA???
I have to admit I left at halftime but only due to wife's heat exhaustion. There was a line up to get OUT of the stadium at Gate 3, 99% were SMU fans and all I heard is "I gotta get some Crown" and "Jim Beam", etc. There were Tech fans trying to talk their way in past security for 2nd Half. So yes, we have some of the worst fans in the NCAA.

Couldn't hear it. Last year we had a text msg going around about when it would start. Should probably just agree on something for now. Like first defensive series of 2nd qtr or something.coloradoStang wrote:CalallenStang wrote:What were they yelling?soccermom wrote:and in the 4th quarter the students were yelling out something and then pointing to the home side....no response.

Re: HART/TURNER - WE HAVE WORST STUDENTS in NCAA???
For more than 20 years, SMU hasn't had much to offer students who care about college athletics. We have a quarter-century of alumni with no history of supporting the athletic department.
The basketball program will help, but ultimately we need a competitive product on the gridiron to (1) encourage students who enjoy college football to enroll and (2) give them a reason to attend -- and stay through -- games.
Another decade or so of the status quo, and SMU will be another Emory or Wash U -- St.Louis. Great schools, but a different undergraduate experience than the pre-DP people on this board enjoyed.
