about 98% of the SMU media and forum commentators over the last two decades have sat on the sidelines and shut their mouths concerning the controversial and essential issues and problems in the SMU program so they could have a front row seat at the Mustang Club table and Coaching Pep Rallys. They damn sure aren't reporters either. Which one are you? How about you PerunaPunch-want to give one example where you actually called the SMU program on a controversial subject during 2 decades of ineptitude. And you guys criticize E.J. as a reporter? Haaaaaaaaaaaa! Whose the reporter and whose the Cheerleader?

Have anyone of you thought about how little journalists make? I think EJ represents the Fourth Estate rather well. His comments reflect his view that many of the alumni are unhappy with JJ and rightfully so. The question is whether any of this actually translates into real action from Turner and Hart in the near future. JJ may still surprise us, although I have serious doubts. I suspect JJ is quite safe, unless Carl Sewell or Hunt get tired of this.

Stallion, I know you like to pick fights with me, but as I have said before you were 100% right about 10 years ago (or is it 15? I am getting old) when you started pointing out how our recruiting limitations were killing us. No doubt about it, you were the one person on the board screaming about how we needed to move towards the Miami model. Honestly, your incessant discussion of the issue may have helped force some of our alumni to put the CoC together and end the two decades of non-competitiveness.

EJ, however, is negative just to drum up ratings, by digging up things that aren't there. I just think it is not very professional. I want to hear about it if folks are struggling at practice, just as I liked it better when Broddus was not paid by the Cowboys and gave honest evaluations of players. But when EJ does it, it is hard to tell when he is exaggerating to drum up interest or if he is being real about it.

EJ is like the kid who cried wolf. He's stirred the pot too many times to probably be taken seriously by anyone who matters with respect to SMU decision making

And you don't think any of the other reporters out there are overly positive just to drum up ratings? It is a two way street Jason.

When it first rolled out Rivals SMU site was kinf of the pseudo reactionary headline. Some of us parodied them all the time back when ATH was still cool.

I respect your opinion ECM, but I like EJ. As a fan, I like to know the truth about what is going on, and like it or not, he will tell you. If it's bad, he will say so. If it's good, he will say so. Stallion pointed out how Sam on Rivals gave us an A up and down for recruiting last year...no.

I had a civil argument with a friend in the athletic department about the state of SMU athletics last year, and he agreed with what JasonB is saying about EJ. It seems like EJ doesn't care about upsetting folks when writing his stories, and writes/speaks about what he thinks his subscribers should know. As a subscriber, I can't ask for more than that.

EJ went down in my estimation when he used LB as a club to beat down JJ in the DMN the other day.

Here's my thing with the JJ vs LB comparisons. Does LB bring a pedigree that gains him a bigger advantage than JJ? Abso-freaking-lutely. Is building a bball program a different beast than a football program? See answer #1. That said, LB and his staff are putting in the effort and taking on all challengers. He may get some, he may not, but he and his staff are out there getting the best they can. Have we been able to say that about JJ in his entire time here (the brief Klemm period being the notable exception)? Football at least had a history (good and bad) to call on if they wanted to; Basketball at SMU has at its apex been above average but never top-tier. Both guys are trying to build something out of nothing; one's doing it, the other is not (or at least not nearly as effectively).
