Tulsa is currently 124th in total defense and 113th in scoring defense. If we swapped Malone for Young we'd have the same terrible defense and a worse recruiting class.
We had both at one point. Morris knew that he needed a guy like Young to help mentor Malone. We are now seeing exactly why, as Malone tries to figure everything out on the fly. If there is significant improvement over the rest of the season, against our conference mates, he may deserve another year. If it's the same old story each week, and we give up 50 against Houston, Cincy, Memphis, Tulsa, etc.......it's time to cut bait.

Yeah we had both with Young as the DL coach and Malone as the DC. Morris needed a guy like Malone on staff but couldn't get him unless he made him a coordinator. Talent is our biggest issue on defense (not that Malone is blameless in the matter) and Malone is doing something about that. Cutting bait with Malone only makes sense if Morris can land a big time DC (legit strategist and recruiter).

I think we ought to stop renewing the scholarships of a bunch of lifetime offensive benchwarmers and give those scholarships to Malone-we gave this guy a huge short stick in the last class which should be obvious to any one who understands recruiting. Look at the numbers in the 2015 Class-Morris knows this-look at the numbers in the 2016 Class. Malone is the sacrificial lamb required because Morris had to transition from Run n Shoot to the Spread

Honestly, Malone needs a couple of seasons with his 2016 recruits before he can be properly evaluated.

According to the depth chart in their game notes (
