2006 Schedule
Moderators: PonyPride, SmooPower
not a very fan friendly home schedule, no doubt. We better win early and often next year or it will be ugly. Assuming we win a few early, this will test the common theory around here that attendance later in the season will be better than it otherwise would if we would just win. I'm willing to wait and see and not complain about the opponents. Gosh, for everyones sake though, we better win.

You watch season tickets will be at a historic low for Ford Stadium. There is no benefit for ensuring a particular great seat for any one game so why bother with season tickets.
Every subsequent year since 2000 has been a historic low for Ford Stadium. Why? Because we have sucked. Your prediction is meaningless. Here's a prediction: If we are above .500, we will have more fans at homecoming than last year (I picked homecoming because I figure it will the 3-5th home game).
I have never gone to an SMU game to watch the opponent and I never will. I go to see SMU. If you don't want to watch Sam Houston, don't go.

That makes no sense. I go to EVERY game to see the opponent of the team I'm rooting for. Otherwise, you'd be watching a scrimmage.

Ahhh, but then SMU would never lose. It is so obvious, you missed it.

I don't understand why all of you are so negative?
SMU should go undefeated at home next year and as the season goes along the attendance will go up, up, up into the stratosphere!
If I was the athletic department, I would start looking into the legalities with University Park for selling standing room only tickets because by November we will need them!

6-5 with the current schedule at absolute worse in my opinion. I can see you guys winning 8 next year easily, assuming the team doesn't take steps back. The season hinges on the results of the first two conference games (@ECU and Houston). Win those two, and you'll win 8 games. Lose both and it's gonna be tough to have a winning record.
But in my completely amateur opinion, I see 6 wins at worst and 8 wins at best.

Hmm...don't know how I missed that.
That being said, it's another W for the ponies.
No reason SMU shouldn't get to 6 wins this year. Absolutely no excuses if y'all don't get there.
That being said, I see 7 wins at minimum for the ponies and even as many as 9 wins. Sure, the schedule is kind of weak, but that's perfectly acceptable for a team trying to rebuild it's program.
I'll settle on the middle and predict an 8-4 overall and 5-3 record in conference for a fourth place finish behind Tulsa, UTEP, and one other.
Y'all must really be excited about next year.
BU's schedule is a bit tougher than last year with non-conf games @Washington State and against TCU. We do get KState and Kansas at home, which are teams I think we should beat, but it's very possible that we could be an improved team and still only get to 5 wins. Heck, if KState, Kansas, or OSU improve by much, we could be an improved team from 05 and still end up with only 4 wins. It's gonna be tough. Hoping we can get to 6-6 and make some progress though.

Great Insight...Someone who has his own SMU website doesn't care who our opponents are.
Answer me this, how many games in the past 4 years absent TTech, OKSt, Baylor, TCU, and Navy have drawn more than 20,000 fans? Point being, for those who are casual fans, OPPONENTS MATTER....for those who have more the 100+ posts on Ponyfans.com and/or who have their own websites devoted to SMU athletics...(that would be about 225 people) then opponents don't matter.
Copeland has a real dilemma on his hands...how to draw crowds to meaningless games (once again, meaningless unless you post 100+ times on Ponyfans.com and/or have your own website dedicated to SMU athletics). He needs to do some Russ Potts-like thinking....personally I don't believe he is up to the task.
