That was a great game and definitely is one of the best. It was a frustrating game because Collins kept our offense overly conservative because he refused to throw a pass. I guess he thought Lance couldn't hit a pass! They kept stacking the line against Dickerson and James and neither could break one. If he hadn't been so conservative it wouldn't have been close. For me that game was more frustrating and therefore was not might favorite.

Another game that I really remember was SMU beating Baylor 28-27 at Baylor in '79 (I need help with the year)? We were just starting to develop a team under Ron Meyer with Mike Ford at quarterback. SMU was down 27-0 in the late third quarter and Baylor was about to score another touchdown. Again the lack of offense was very frustrating especially given the inability of Mike Ford to sustain a drive. However, Baylor fumbled on the 1 yard line. Ford finally got the offense going and took us 99 yards to score the first touchdown. We scored three more times and won the game right at the end. It was really a tremendous amount of fun. That game and Lance's first game against Texas with the pitch by Lance to Craig that opened it up to win the game are the ones I remember most.

Baylor Game

Post by Boston Pony »

The season was 1978. I thought we were down three scores before the fumbleFord to Tolbert for the winning score, if memory is right. LB Putt Choate was a star in the game... 78 was great as it was the Mustang Mania initial year. For the Baylor game a bunch (around 500) students went down for the game... we went wild...good game. Another from that season was the tie with Ohio State. Ford passes for around 350 yards and we should have won it. Beginning of the end for Woody Hayes.
