The best college football game you ever attended

It doesn't have to be SMU. It could be a Division III game for all we care.

For me,
The 1999 Arkansas-Tennessee game in Fayet-nam. Razorbacks won, 28-24, when Clint Stoerner found Anthony Lucas in the end zone with about 3 minutes to play. Then, the Razorbacks held off Tee Martin's drive that I think ended at the Arkansas 30.

It had all of the great elements: Big plays, turnovers, lead changes, etc.
Razorback Stadium went crazy. God rest Paul Eels soul.

Why was I at that game? My lovely wife is a Razorback alum.

SMU over UConn (1989) or Maryland over Miami (1985, I think) -- long live Frank Reich.

2003 SEC Championship game, LSU over Georgia. Outnumbered 2/3 to 1/3 in UGA's backyard, LSU's contingent was as loud or louder and by the end of the night the 'woofing' had been silenced.

1980 win over UT in Austin. First defeat by SMU over UT in 13 years and unrated SMU knocked off #2 UT.

An incredibly close second is the 1968 Bluebonnet bowl win over OU.

2001 Rose Bowl. Miami defeated Nebraska 37-14 to win the championship. Not much of a game, but the atmosphere was awesome.

1984 Aloha Bowl, SMU over Notre Dame. ND had a chance to tie the game with about 1 minute left, but their 4th down pass (Steve Buerlien to Tim Brown) was way over the recievers head and out the back of the endzone. We lead the whole game, but the Irish were always within reach and it came down to that final series before it was over. Great game, great atmosphere. Notre Dame was absolutely loaded with future NFL players. Even though we had a better record, the media made us a serious underdog. Nothing else has ever felt like winning that night.

That was SMU's last bowl game. Last bowl win. and 1984 was our last conference championship.
Try not to choke on the Kool-Aid.

Yeah. That was a pretty good one. I'm still contemplating. It's a tough decision for me.

#1 1980 SMU over Texas in Austin.

#2 1969 #1 Texas vs. #2 Arkansas in Fayetteville. President Nixon was even in attendance. Yes, I was at the "Game of the Century". This would have been my #1 choice except for the final score. Texas won 15-14.

2002 OU vs. A&M at Kyle Field. A&M upsets a then undefeated #1 ranked OU team. (I hate OU). Say what you will about Aggies (I know, my wife is one). But Kyle Field on that particular evening was awesome. What a fantastic environment. I might have been so caught up in the Aggieland tradition that I might have even sung Hullabaloo. If memory serves me correctly, I think Adrian Peterson was in attendance at that game too, and still chose OU.

#1 1980 Win over UT at Austin
#2 1982 Win over TT at Lubbock
#3 1974 Win over ATM I think that they were ranked in the top 5. Also it was the day that The Mustang Band used whistles during the Aggie Band half time performance to mess up there routine. This was also the day the Baylor beat UT for the first time in 100 years, so we got the same amount of press as todays team does.
#4 The best game that I have ever seen on tv has to be this years Rose Bowl. I don't think that I have ever seen a game live up to its hype like the UT vs USC game did.

Without Question.. the 2005 Rose Bowl.. Texas beats Michigan!

My Dad is a UT Alum.. and I've also always loved the Longhorns. Pull for SMU with my Heart.. and Texas with my brain.

Nothing better than hearing the "Eyes of Texas" after that game.. gave me chills! To be in California and also realize that the last Texas team to play there was SMU.. pretty cool.

Nothing like the Rose Bowl. If you EVER have a chance to get out there for a game.. highly highly encourage it. That place has incredible history and just a feel to it like no place I've ever seen a sporting event.

BTW.. it was a great game too!
What we obtain too cheap.. we esteem too lightly. It is persistence alone that gives everything its value.
