All the leapfroggers were reportedly significantly taller than Johnson as reported by Rivals. But who really cares-he's one of the top receivers in the state and perfectly suited to the SMU Inside Receiver position.
And, as we know, a Rivals upgrade will actually upgrade your on field talent.

I've never had a problem with 5-11 or 5-10.5 whatever he is INSIDE Receivers. I've been saying that's not a problem for some time. Now outside you'd preferrably want someone 6-1 to 6-3. The key at Inside Receiver is can he turn a 5 yard pass into a home run. Speed, quickness and the ability to turn on a dime.

At Tech, he might be the next Michael Crabtree. Here he will be the first Darius Johnson.
At least that's the recruiting angle I'd take.

I'm surprised the "General" doesn't recognize a Battle when he sees one.
As I said before, I am confident Darius Johnson's LOI will be faxed across to the athletic department on Feb. 4. Why? Because our coaches continue to do their due diligence on all of their commitments after they commit. We consider Jeff Reinbold our best recruiter so I trust he will continue to procure that relationship.
With Iowa State and Houston now offering, the question Darius must ask himself is, "Why are they showing interest now after not being as interested before?''
If you want something bad enough, you have to fight for it. And we are.
