The reason you can still buy tickets online is that SMU will keep selling tickets until the Fire Marshal says we have to stop. There are 32,000 actual places for butts if they all sit down at the same time and a "sellout" means we sell 32,000 tickets, but that doesn't mean we stop selling at 32,000. That's how we got almost 35K at the previous best attended game. We sold more GA tickets than we had actual GA seats to fill. Same deal here.
For all of those who so confidently say we "won't" or "can't" sell out for the game on Saturday, if we do, I hope you will graciously come back here on Sunday or Monday to tell us what idiots you were. I myself don't make predictions because I just don't like the taste of crow.
What annoys me is the glee so many SMU "faithful" seem to take in finding the cloud in every silver lining.
"We will never sell out! Why would anyone want to come see SFA and a crappy SMU team?"
"Oh. We might actually sell out? Well, nobody's actually going to come to the game -- it will be a sellout in name only. All the rich guys must have just bought all the tickets. Those seats will just be empty."
"Oh. There might actually be close to 32K people there? Well, it's just DISD students. Doesn't matter if that's exactly the formula Russ Potts used for the ballyhooed Mustang Mania years, I don't like it because I can't guarantee they're actually going to root for SMU."
"Oh. Most of the students who were given free tickets are probably going to root for SMU (you know, the home team, the ones who gave them the tickets and own the stadium they're actually sitting in -- I mean, you could give kids free Dallas Jai Alai tickets and they'd cheer like mad for the home team)? Well, they won't be "real" fans, and they probably can't afford to come back anyway, so what good does it do."
"Oh. Building community rapor is a good idea? Well, we won't be able to get anyone in the stadium the rest of the year, especially if we lose like I think we're going to or at least don't win by 45 points like we should."

Well, I can go online to Ticketmaster and buy the whole row of section 207, row 10....still pretty decent seats, not the same as selling as many GA seats as you can. People need to quit having blind faith and see things as they are. You can be a die hard SMU Fan without blinkers as well.
We will start drawing crowds and interest when we start winning conference titles and going to bowl games...

If they do not find the cloud in the silver lining they will be a sunshiner.

No doubt there are "still great seats available" in the reserved sections. There is a team still working away at selling season tickets in those areas. But if we sell 13000 tickets for GA seats with 8K or 9K official capacity, then the fact that 20 seats in Section 207 are still available does not negate a sellout.
I don't think it's about putting on blinders or taking them off -- you can believe whatever you want. People that know me and talk to me in person know what my real feelings about the program are. I just don't see what good it does to be part of the constant "rain on the parade" litany of posts on the message board. The only thing it seems to accomplish is that when gloomy predictions come true, you can come back and say "See, I told you so. You guys who were cautiously optimistic were so naive and stupid." I guess if it makes you feel better to be able to say you "realists" were right, and those of us who try and refrain from voicing our worst fears about our own team in public forums were wrong, so be it.

I was able to get the same seats yesterday that I have had since Ford opened. Delayed my season ticket purchase a bit it seems.

Ticketmaster shows the stadium sold out of $14 seats. Only the more expensive ones are available. Gotta figure a good number of walk-ups will need to buy tickets, maybe we will set a record for legit bodies. That would be a great thing to see.

as some one who worked a tad with Mustang Mania-this is nothing like Mustang Mania. Mustang Mania did get corporate sponsor to buy and distribute tickets but they also saturated the media with an incredible media blitz that actuallly did have Dallas talking SMU Football.

No doubt Mustang Mania was more than just distributing tickets to locals and bussing them in to the stadium. I never claimed otherwise. I was just pointing out that complaining about having rich people and their companies buy tickets to distribute to DISD kids and then provide transportation to the game -- one of the things Mustang Mania did to get people to games -- is a little silly.
But I guess I should amend my list:
"We will never sell out! Why would anyone want to come see SFA and a crappy SMU team?"
"Oh. We might actually sell out? Well, nobody's actually going to come to the game -- it will be a sellout in name only. All the rich guys must have just bought all the tickets. Those seats will just be empty."

Per Stallion (am I getting this right?): "We may have a sellout, but I knew Mustang Mania, I worked with Mustang Mania, and you sir, are no Mustang Mania. I don't care how you got the sellout, if you didn't do it exactly as we did, it's worthless."

I remember a full Texas Stadium in an early season game against Baylor during Mustang Mania in 79. We lost, but I remember people chanting SMU, SMU in the concourse on the way out. It was impressive.

No, but it certainly defines where I'll be sitting.
