The general would be a horrible hire. He is done. Players don't respond to his tired and false tough guy routine.

Give me an up and coming young assistant who's trying to make a name for themselves any day of the week. No more re-treads, please. We need someone who can either recruit TX or recruit the East Coast, since we'll be playing a lot of games over there. Also, someone who Travis Bickle doesn't have a creepy obsession with would be nice, so we don't have to read his nonsense here ever again.

Yeah, he only took a TT team to the sweet 16 a couple of years ago and has won three national championships. Maybe our soft players need a guy like him. I like to see even a head butt or two on some of these guys/

Dave Bliss took Baylor to the NIT eleven years ago, maybe we should give him a call.

Fwiw, a co-worker, who is a former AAU coach, loves Chris Collins at Duke if we want to win clean and any of Calipari's assistants if we're not worried about integrity

What the Yale concert violenist failed to mention. Nancy did take the D-League team to the playoffs, but took a position in the front office to spend more time watching her kid play high school basketball.

Here's my short list. Feel free to tear it apart.

1. Fran Fraschilla - this guy would be a great choice if you can rip him away from his ESPN gig. He is a Big East type of coach.

2. Jeff Capel - yeah, this guy got in over his head at OU. He was fine while Blake Griffin was there to crack heads, but once he left, knuckleheads like Willie Warren, Tiny Gallon, and Tommy Mason-Griffin turned out to be locker room cancers that took the program down. Capel is tight with Jeff Webster who has connections with the Texas Titans and some of the Prestonwood Academy players. Get a couple of those guys to SMU and you'll start to see things turn around.

3. Matt Driscoll - HC North Florida the last 2 seasons. This guy was previously the top assistant at Baylor. High, high energy, tireless recruiter, always positive. He worked with Ekpe Udoh during his redshirt year at Baylor and turned him into a good offensive player that was key in helping BU get to the Elite 8. Driscoll would make inroads in Metroplex recruiting right away.

Fraschilla lives in Highland Park and has wanted the SMU job for years, so it wouldn't be an issue getting him here.

But do you really think he can win on the Hilltop? I have my doubts.

I'm not sure Jeff Capel got in any NCAA trouble. The whole Tiny Gallon money incident was traced to an assistant, I think his name was Orlando Taliaferro or something like that. He was the one who fell on his sword.

With all the bad blood in the locker room between Gallon, Warren, and Mason-Griffin, all three left to go pro (don't think any of them are in the NBA) after a bad 2010 season. Taliaferro resigned, but Capel stayed on another season and the cupboard was basically bare, so after a terrible season last year, he left OU. I doubt Coach K could've hired him back if there was any kind of show-cause sanction against him. Capel did a good job at Va Tech and did good at OU during the Blake Griffin years.

I think the guy could come in and get a good foothold with local recruiting, something Doherty never has been able to do.
