Not coincidental - I should think. Especially given Morris' talk of culture change. Too bad but part of the business.

A real culture change. Not June's "culture change" from cutting/demoting the team's best player to make a statement that he's in charge now. I look forward to it.

I'll miss the "nobody out there cares for you except me" culture June set up. Or the voodoo ritual that must have preceeded his annual penciling of the season's W-L. Or perhaps it was a séance with a projector as the medium. Adios!

had JJ not quit in the middle of the season (like the spineless POS he is), he would have, with certainty, been fired. Hart would have still spent the season courting Morris, and we'd end up in the same boat, I believe.

I'm partially convinced that PlanoStang is the volleyball player that JJ had the fling with in Hawaii.

You can look at Mason's comments two ways:
1) All he's doing is parroting the same crap the Jones was because he's brainwashed/voodoo, blah blah blah
2) Now that two different people are saying the same thing, maybe there's something to it
Personally I'll go a little with 1, but more with 2. Comments about their recruiting aside, they're the ones that went through it and only they would know exactly how it is, not us.

they aren't two different people. they are part of the same horrible regime that has been in place for the past 7 years. thank god there is different (and existent) leadership on the hilltop now.

I'll put you down for No. 1.

Exactly. Just pathetic

I also want to say that while Mason is whining about a coach being hired with 1 week left in the season, he must have forgotten about Muschamp being fired at Florida with (4?) weeks left in the season and still coaching the rest of the games. Essentially the same thing. See ya. Don't let the door hit you in the as.s on the way out.

How are those two scenarios the same? While both were "resignations", the situations were different.
1. Muschamp decided to finish out the season. If he wanted to leave immediately, he could have.
2. Florida hasn't hired a coach yet.

Mason has a legitimate [deleted], but SMU's decision is completely understandable. SMU had to do it or lose any chance of having anything positive this season. Waiting an extra week to save face for Mason is not worth the loss of time for HCCM. It's too bad, but had to be done.

You really believe that CP?.....really?????
I call BS on this. They knew.
This is their freaking LIVELIHOOD.
True but a lot of these guys were old NFL coaches where you don't recruit or Hawaii coaches where all they did was make a phone here or ther because they had no recruiting budget. There was no evidence in JJ's time here that recruiting mattered to anyone(excluding klemm) at all.
I can vouch for their lack of understanding of how to recruit effectively. I saw it first hand. I am a high school football coach, and when JJ's guys would come to our school to "recruit" kids their first couple years in Dallas, they'd literally show up wearing worn out jeans and cutoff t-shirts. As an SMU grad and a guy who started for 4 years as a football player on the hilltop, I could not have been more embarrassed when they walked through the door dressed like that. That was the first thing they told me... "We never had to go out and recruit at Hawaii. We'd just watch tape and call kids on the phone..."
So disappointing.

The entire coaching staff knew better than anyone that talent has dropped significantly. They knew this prior to this season starting based on the last couple recruiting classes. What does it say about a coaching staff that did not leave individually to pursue better jobs and/or was offered better jobs at other programs?
If we were to grade how desirable recruits are based on offers, wouldn't the same philosophy be true for the coaching staff? How many of Jones assistant coaches have been sought after by other programs? Adrian Klem is the only one that really comes to mind (best recruiter for Jones).
I don't mind Mason's comments at all but good coaches always have choices and he may still have some that surface although not as desirable as he wants.
If Chad Morris does as well as we all hope, he and his staff will be sought after by top programs - we would rather have that than a staff no one wants.
