True, but they would have raised a similar amount simply with the higher donation requirements so that really isn't a big deal at all.

The final number will be interesting.
I still don't think any flat dollar amount will fully measure the impact of this initiative though. It will be easy to spin the numbers to fit just about any narrative or agenda.
Speaking for myself, SMU athletics will end up with a lot less money over time which is sad.

That number is very unbelievable to me... but I obviously can't disprove it. And yeah, the new structure is going to make it even easier to spin the numbers anyway, since SMU has no incentive to release detailed financials. (Obviously I wouldn't expect them to; almost no private institutions do. Not a "dig" at them.) But we'll all be around long-term to see how it plays out for real, for better or worse.
I've said all along that I think the re-seat will prove to be a successful short-term cash grab (and possibly even attendance-wise, as some will be excited for their new seats), but long-term it's driving away core groups of supporters and giving alumni one less reason to trust an Athletic Department that is already saddled with a ton of historical baggage.
SMU Athletics has lost me and most of my buddies as a source of funds for the foreseeable future, but obviously there's a lot bigger fish out there that they are catering to. I guess that's a good thing?

SMU lost an entire generation of football fans from the 90's to about 2009. I'm afraid the same will happen with basketball

Or is it possible they are attracting new fans with deeper pockets.
I have no horse in the race since I am out of state and no longer have season tickets. But it seems the intent is to attract new blood while we have a promising future. I do sympathize with the long time fans who may be priced out, but I can also see merit in what is happening.

There's no new blood involved in the reseat. Current season ticket holders only..these numbers are from people that have increased $ given

So as long as you had a season ticket a year ago you're in.

Has no one actually considered that if they keep their same donation that they might end up in better seats or, pardon my French, the same seats? If you decide to ΓÇÿquit’ or ΓÇÿwait it out’ you will 100% end up in worse seats when you decide you want back in because it’s the cool thing again. I’d actually be willing to bet any $1k donor who isn’t in ΓÇÿpremium’ seating that their situation either improves or remains the same.
If you are in the front row of 204 or in 103-105 and giving the minimum seat donation you are likely to be shuffled around. So we are talking about 50-60 account holders maximum. And they have all been given figures that indicate what it should take to keep those seats.

^Wish I could give this 1000 stars.

SMU lost an entire generation of football fans because football was a swirling vortex of suck from the 90s through 2009. SMU basketball on the other hand has delivered 2 conference championships in the past four years, multiple weeks in the top 25 (with a week or two in the top 10), multiple wins over ranked teams both at home and on the road, and has brought a new generation of SMU fans more happiness and joy over the past four years than anything football or basketball brought in the previous 25. OK, maybe the Hawaii Bowls and the 2011 win over TCU are up there, but basketball's record speaks for itself.
Also, last time I checked, SMU isn't cashing $30 million checks each year in TV money. The athletic department needs to do what it can to generate revenue so that we continue to field a high level basketball program.
Those of you saying "I'm just going to quit and buy through Stub Hub" will be buying tickets for which someone already paid SMU directly, so no issue there.
Moody Magic will be there for big games when the team is playing well. Those of you who expect it at non conference games on Mondays in December against directional Louisiana schools need a bit of a reality check.
2018-19 will be a big year for this program. Get back to the tournament and win a game. Time for Jank to prove he can develop talent and build a winning program independent of LB.

I absolutely was not. If I had been, my problem with this re-seat would disappear almost completely. I am not in the named sections, but I do have "in demand" seats that will likely require an increased dination to get the same or similar. If they tell me how much before 03/31/18, I'd probably still just pay it.
Reading through the thread it seems that for every person that doesn't support the re-seat because they don't understand it, there's someone else that seemingly does support it because they don't understand it.
Regardless, most people's decisions are made at this point, so we're probably beating a dead horse. The short-term and long-term results will be there for all of us to see soon enough.

I keep trying not to care... hopefully once 03/31/18 passes I'll just move on. Really bummed by the situation.
