I'm not banning anyone from the board or have chosen to stop reading anyone either.

Basing opinions on two games of an inexperienced team makes no sense. 10 underclassmen and two transfers playing for the first time together. Not to mention one transfer (Faye) just started playing Wednesday.

I'm not part of the quitting on a team and ruffling feathers crowd, I'm part of the no expectations crowd. You can look at my past posts concerning that. Conference play of this year and all of next year are where you will see some larger strides.

Nyakundi had his first big game Wednesday (got his first start too). That builds confidence. We have also seen Harp's minutes drop. That tells me we have recruited over a former starter. That's good news. Harp can be expected to play his hustle/energy role and not expected to throw up a bunch of shots like last year.

We may be witnessing Malone's minutes drop with the emergence of Faye. It's early, but I think it is clear Coach Doh wants Faye to take the spot. Faye played a lot of minutes for his first time out.

These two examples are typical of a complete rebuild. Bring in as many talented players that would be an upgrade over what we had. Coach Doh's first big class was a complete upgrade on current talent (excluding Roberts and Killen). Let those guys pan themselves out and then you bring in the next class to replace and compliment.

Now Harp and Malone know what it feels like to be starters. They also know what it takes to get there and how they lost it. Competition breeds competition. We haven't had that for a long time here. SMU has had way too many players that would never start but played a lot of minutes in recent years. Give me guys who have seen the big time and then loose it. That builds a winner.

No excuses, just facts.

Every year I played at SMU we had a bad loss.....bad losses are wake-up calls which gives a coach a new platform to kick [deleted] and it appeared they woke up a bit against the Aggies....moral victory or not, its that type of effort we will need to get through the conference intact.

Oh know, somebody with real experience making good points!

My basketball experience wasn't cutting it with this crowd. They should listen to you.

Thanks Greg, I agree with you.

Considering that the wins are over Houston Baptista, Texas A&I-St. Francis of Assissi and Alabama State of mind, I would say that a win over somebody halfway decent would be helpful.

How old is this baby? It's been a lot of years since Shumate was here and we went to the tourney....

Thanks for the latest discussion. I was one of those ready to throw in the towel. I needed reminding that first, Doh does know what he is doing, he has the experience and probably having learn to adjust his own style to meet the combination of youth and talent. Secondly, some of these players do have ability, just not the experience. Finally, it takes time for individuals to learn to play as a team.

How did the season start out the year of the "Fab 5" at Michigan?

Yeah, but don't let that derail Snob's mission of badmouthing SMU every chance he gets.

(Cue the predictable rah-rah "Go SMU" posts to make him think he's fooling us into believing he's an SMU fan.)

Bump to remind you basketball kool-aid drinkers that I continue to stand by the headline of this thread.

I thought Faye was going to be answer? What's going on there? Dia's mentally checked out season continues.

Folks, you're going to be lucky if this team wins 8 games. But Doherty gets a one-year probationary year to get it figured out. By then, it will be too late.

Season is a complete waste of time.

Incoherent - i can't exactly tell what you are trying to say about Doherty, but if you think the season is a waste of time, why are you still posting? Will we get bumps if the team wins games too?
