Like it or not, this season died with the UAPB loss
I don't why people are in so much angst about what's going to happen for the remainder of the season. It's irrelevant. Season is over, folks.

Captain Abandon the Ship is always the first to suck up and one of the first to jump ship when the first signs of leaks appear. Now is not the time to write Doherty off. We are playing 11 or is it 12 first or second year players with basically one experienced upperclassman(Senior or Junior). Go see how Baylor did in a similiar time period. Even if every single recruit in the 2007 doesn't live up to expectations-now is not the time to jump ship. The key to this season is to show improvement and most of us expected that improvement to come later in the year.

Overlooking for a moment the fact that people aren't in angst - you feel or experience angst - a lot of folks are fine with the fact that you think the season is over. Feel free to not chime in with your sensationalist rhetoric that is based on anything but fact.George S. I'd say "talk to you next year," but I expect your embargo on opinions about this team will last less than an hour.
Kudos to you, Stallion - you're exactly right. You're not often the voice of patience, I realize, but you're dead-on with this assessment (even the comparison to Baylor High).

This is the first game in a while I've come away feeling optimistic. Faye is a legit upper level college b-ball talent....I just questioned whether he would ever get on the floor for us. I'm equally as excited by the play of Nyakundi......I've wished for a true long range bomber in a Pony uniform for years

I'd also point out that despite some recruiting success Doherty has only recruited 1 recruit who could be considered a polished, quality high school recruit (Paul McCoy) who had demonstrated competence in many phases of the game. Add in Williams if you include JUCOs. I tried to point this out when I was following them in high school.
Fall-BIG TIME LONG TERM PROJECT-no offensive skills
Dia-kid did not put up big offense numbers in high school despite his lofty ranking
Walker-second stringer who probably scored 5-6 points a game.
Otis-big time defensive player who had shooting deficiencies
Faye-never put up big offensive numbers
You can go right down the list and most were recruited on potential. Well maybe Harp but his competition level in West Texas was suspect.
What I'm trying to point out is that SMU recruited players on potential they hope can develop but in no way have they demonstrated the competence of Sasser, Davis, Han(thingy), Hopkins, Ross or even the kid who transferred to Baylor. Most of these kids were top scorers and/or lead their teams to State Championship games.
Its kinda like Baseball where Scouts talk about 5 Hand prospects ie they can hit, hit with power, run, throw and play defense. The so called Willie Mays prospect-("If you can do that - if you run, hit, run the bases, hit with power, field, throw and do all other things that are part of the game - then you're a good ballplayer.")
SMU ain't getting 5 hand BB players despite the overrating of these classes. Most can run, jump, some play defense but most can't shoot FG or even FTs and several can't rebound. When we start getting guys with more versitile talents then we ought to improve more. I think Doherty gives us a decent chance to get us some 4-5 hand BB recruits in the future like top programs do. Till then you need to work on the skills they do have and recruit like hell to find players with more talent in the applicable talent categorie.

SMU unfortunately doesn't include many Senior Stats in the bios but check out some of these kids junior years:
Dia 7.8 ppg
Nykundi 8.4
Walker 6 ppg
Fall-less than 5 ppg
Otis 14 ppg by overpowering inside play-he had shooting problems icluding hitting on about 45% of his FTs.
Some of these guys improved in their senior years but did not lead their teams like Sasser, Willie Davis, Han-cock, Ross or if you want to go farther back Koncak(averaged 29 ppg), Larry Davis or Carl Wright.
