Neither school has much to brag about when it comes to fan support except for TCU's recent success(hence removal from SWC). Hopefully Ft Worth wil support TCU even when they don't have top 25 teams. The jury is still out on if SMU can draw fans, even with a winning program. We should all be pulling for each other to succeed since it is an uphill climb with the numbers when you are going against the masses(ut,tt,a&m,ou,osu). That is exept for "Iron Skillet Week).

All bluster aside I think we will bring 8-10'. Not sure how we could snap up anymore. Can't see any of us buying the lawn seats. Parents weekend, big game, ranked despised rival... If we have more than that it will be because of SMU fan apathy. I hope I am right because this rivaly needs to be hostile with high energy.

There are a lot more Frog Alums living in Dallas than there are Mustang Alums living in Fort Worth which accounts somewhat for the difference in the crowds we bring to each other's stadium.

Ultimately, neither school can bring in bigger crowds. No matter how well we play, DFW and the state of Texas as a whole are dominated, and I mean dominated by Texas,Texas A&m, and Tech. Im not sure about SMU, but TCU has a total of like 9500 students Grad/undergrad. So no matter how high the ranking, a fan base the size of a school like UT or A&M with 45000-60000 students, aint gonna happen. Hopin for a good game tonight. Go frogs.

This is a legitimate point and would impact overall growth. However, other small schools like Notre Dame and USC which is a little bigger have done very well with attendance. We can win over t-shirt fans over time if the commitment is made by the schools. Both schools are off to a good start now, but we will find out the mettle of both programs when the current coaches are replaced by their successors. If the schools are committed to winning, they will make sure those coaches are the best. If this is done, I think you will see both schools attendance continue to rise.

On the other hand, USC and Notre Dame do not diretly compete with the NFL in their areas.
:?

True, but DFW is a lot bigger than those areas as well. Also, there is competition for the Entertainment dollar around USC. Maybe we can't get the numbers that Notre Dame does at 70,000+, but why could we not get 50,000+? or 50,000+ at TCU and 40,000+ at SMU? TCU right now is averaging over 40,000 this year.

TCU's success came after they were removed from the SWC not before.

DFW isn't bigger than Los Angeles or Chicago, but the overall point is valid. Both schools can (and should) draw more fans.

In regards to the NFL vs. college, how many fans truly have to choose between supporting one or the other?
