He might walk away when he realizes the talent level probably ain't going to get him far on next year's schedule. The best solution would be for SMU to put pressure on him to get him to throw retirement parties for 3-4 old codgers on his staff and replace them with aggressive, young recruiters with Texas ties.
But what are the chances of this? I can't imagine him agreeing to something like this. Or if anyone in the administration has the balls to demand it.
Mack Brown turned over his entire staff - what-2 or was it 3 years-after a National Championship-you would think June was smart enough to think of of it himself because somethings got to give with SMU playing a tougher schedule.
I agree with you, I just see June as being too stubborn or proud to do it. It seems an obvious solution, but for whatever reason, June likes doing it the same way, which is weird since he complained about no money to recruit in UH, but now here where he would not need a lot of money to go after good local players, he is not making the effort or hiring anyone who will. Just don't get it.

I think that about sums it up for me. If we can agree that the bball coaching search went down perfectly in terms of the results ("name" HC that turns heads along with ability to get young, stud recruiters and a solid HIW) can we do the same with football? Are/can those same people get involved with the football coaching search?

The receivers seemed to do a better job under Reinebold to some degree.

Terrible game adjustments. No fire. And why is your DC in the booth and not on the field (because he obviously has no one he can trust to put up there - he answers his own question).

Reinebold was a good coach. I always felt like I learned something every time I talked to him. Of course what he did was beyond boneheaded.

On the other hand, I really like the offense that Phillips orchestrated at Houston (much more impressed with their offense than ours), so I was hoping that we'd get his influence on June as well as his recruiting ability in Houston. Houston always seemed to roll out a whole slew of track stars, and I would like to see that on the Hilltop.

I hope we see some with the last few scholarships left to give in this class.

When is JJ's contract up?
Is this the last year or does he go through 2013?

Original contract was 2008-2012, he signed a 2 year extension in 2010 that extended him through 2014 (that was the last reported extension).

To the tune of this original post, I think when we get blown out the majority of what's left of the JJ supporters will convert when frogs laugh, Ags and bears pity us. I'll be there to cheer but I'm sure the non hardcore fans wont show and you can't blame them. This doesn't feel like a team that knows how to play football. Defense is good at the beginning but they give up when the offense can't do anything and I sympathize but they need to give 110% every down because right now at least for our senior their only hope is to prove to the scouts they deserve the next level despite their crap of a team

I wasn't very good at driving a car 3 weeks after I learned to drive. Gilbert is still learning to drive this car. I'm firmly in his camp and June's, and if we can get healthy again, I believe this is one of those teams that will get significantly better over the course of the season.

They probably will be better after TCU wipeout since we are going to play CUSA, not to sound pessimistic but just a realist, I'm in GG's camp since he has no WR and I'm definitely not in JJ camp probably ever again even if we win CUSA simply because he's a quitter and crybaby in the big games I can't stand those kind of people. Also it's too much to ask to support peruna and wear red and blue...

We're playing three teams in the first four games that are in the top 25 or at least getting votes, so the fact that we lost to Baylor and A&M is not a surprise. I don't expect to beat the damned Frogs, either, although I'll be there from start to finish, screaming my lungs out. I do, however, expect to win C-USA games, enough to help me spend another holiday at a bowl game.

I would be in June's camp a little bit more if it wasn't for the ASU garbage.

My biggest beef with June is his overall demeanor, and I feel that in ways it's reflected by performance with the players. There's always this non-chalant air with him whether where down by 40 or winning by 40, and I understand composure and rationality are great assets to have, but damn can you show a little enthusiasm from time to time? I look at the teams we play, and their players seem to be a little more lively and excited to be playing ball than ours, and I feel that it's Junes demeanor that plays a part in that. I'm not saying that's the only reason we're losing games, but is it too much to wish for us to compete and make the scores a little less lopsided? I think that same demeanor June has also impacts the recruiting, I just feel that if I were a recruit then I'd be more interested in playing for a coach with a little more fire. It's no wonder we have nothing but a bunch of 2 star recruits, hell, I'm looking at North Texas and I'd be willing to bet that they'd put up a W on us. There just seems to be no heart or chemistry with this team, and I lay that blame at the feet of JJ. You're not going to get quality recruits with a non-chalant attitude that isn't convincing them that the program is headed in the right direction.
