PSU fans have such a warped value system about the program that many of them would chose option one.

Not to minimize the horror here, but at UVA a lacrosse player murdered his girlfriend. Many people ignored the signs of violence and a life was lost. These included University personnel. The question is whether that also is lack of institutional control? On the other hand Baylor got hit hard after the Dodson incident, but the school was already on probation in other sports, and once the incident occurred, the NCAA found out that Bliss was still Bliss and had numerous rules violations and his handling of the murder itself was horrid, but the murder was not the cause of the NCAA rules violation.

1) While the people at UVA probably could have "done more" to protect the girlfriend, the same can be said about her friends and/or the authority. Ultimately, when something like that happens, there is always 2nd guessing. Bottom line, it appears everyone made "honest" mistakes.

2) Baylor - I would love to blame the university, but the blame for the handling of the murder falls completely on Bliss. The punishment by the NCAA seemed about right given what happened.

3) Perv State U - by 2001, they knew that there was a child rapist using their facilities to rape children and access to their program to recruit victims. For years, they saw Sandusky on campus and at games. For years, they knew he was raping kids. All of them kept quiet b/c they wanted to protect the reputation of Joe Pervterno and his program. The program has to pay a heavy price.

I personally don't see the UVA situation as related at all.

ESPN is reporting sources saying that it's not the death penalty...
but that the death penalty may have been preferable to what they're going to get.

Possible loss of most (or all) scholarships? I think any elimination of bowl possibilities is an empty gesture. With appropriate penalties, bowls won't be much of an issue for quite some time.

How will the Big 10 react to Penn St. football being a club sport for all intents and purposes?

Could be DP in all sports or a long ban on all NCAA association, ie no sports for 5 years

Monday at 9 eastern...

While it may not bear the "Death Penalty's" shocking name (which was coined by the media), I'm willing to bet it's crippling, especially coupled with unmeasurable damage such as smeared reputation and bad press.

I'd lost some enthusiasm for college football, but I might feel vindicated in the morning..

On a side note, this came down quick-like...Thought the NCAA would perform their own investigation instead of almost exclusively using the Freeh Report.

If we had to wait on an NCAA investigation, JoPa would be reincarnated and coaching again.

Multiple year bowl ban plus significant loss of scholarships over period of time and ability for players to immediately transfer would be a big blow to program.
But I can't see two decades worth of damage being done.

Our 2 decades were self inflicted. DP should be a 5 year set back at worst.

Exactly.
We know that, but some of the natl stories mention our two decades lost in cfb wilderness.
