Potential Vandy Transfer

Post by Stallion »

a new Texas recruiting/magazine Texas Sports Online is reporting that former Georgetown All-Stater OLM Stephen Brent (6-4,270 4.9 according to Rivals his senior year) has received his release from Vanderbilt and is seeking to transfer to a Texas Division 1A school. SMU offered Brent out of High School. According to Vandy cite he is a 2 year letterman, played as first year freshman(red-shirt availiable), started first 4 games at center of his sophmore season until he was injured. Expected to compete for starting job this year. He is listed on Vanderbilt cite as 6-3, 285 4.9 with high school stats of bench 360 squat 500. Oppps he is listed as majoring in Human and Organizational Development so I won't get my hopes up. Also, I'd be interested if anyone has signed on to this recruiting service-I believe it is run by former UT recruiting coordinator Randy Rodgers. It is more than a recruiting site and has free content about all Texas colleges-might want to check it out.

Brent would be a great coup.

From the direction their Admin is heading, Vandy will be D-III by the end of the decade. Players are leaving, coaches are disgruntled, etc.

Stallion, here's a blurb from a Nashville paper on Brent (8/12).....

August did not exactly start out very well for Johnson, who suffered a major academic casualty. The dismissal of sophomore starting center Steven Brent leaves a gaping hole in the middle of his offensive line, and nobody on his squad with any college game experience to fill it.

This is great news if we can land this guy at SMU. Besides the O and D lines, I pray for wide receivers who can actually get separation and catch a ball

It may not happen, but I really cannot comment on what "academic casulty" means in this case. Maybe he took some clases over his head? Anyway My wishes are more around upgrading the talent at SMU than this guy right here. Let me dream the big dream

"Academic Casualty??" :? What does that mean?

As for the "Human & Organizational Development" interest as cited by Stallion, that sounds like a play on Anthropology, Sociology, or Psych.

Our B-school has a "Management" degree that used to be called Organizational Behavior and Business Policy (one of my degrees), but their requirements could be pretty tough for an "academic casualty".

I'd sure like to know what that means....

Call me crazy, but judging by the quote I think they are talking about a different player as the academic casualty...the Johnson guy, and then they said that Brent left the team.

HOD at Vanderbilt is Human Resources (HR) for most companies.

BTW, Vandy isn't going to Div III for what it is worth. With the exception of FB, they are competitve in every other sport, SEC and often nationally. Being on a BCS conference gravey train isn't so bad. Just ask Baylor and Duke in FB.

Reading Comprehension 101...Johnson is the coach. Brent was dissmissed. Brent is the "academic casualty".

Theres no disgrace in academic problems at Vandy, where they actually have to go to class..Maybe being closer to home and getting another shot would be a good thing..

He may need a year or two at JC to get his grades and his pride back. I doubt SMU would accept him if he flagged out of Vandy without some remedial work.
