DMN says DiNardo was on campus today.
Here is my opinion.
He was at Vandy. He only produced one winning season there--which I think came in his first two years there. This, to me, means that he did it with the former coaches players. Vandy is, in theory, on the same level as SMU, but they are in a MUCH MUCH harder conference. The question is, could he have won at Vandy if he were in a WAC type conference?
Then he was at LSU. He had a winning record there but from friends that are LSU fans, they could not wait to get rid of him. This means he could not do great things at a big named school. But LSU has higher expectations than SMU.
Then he was just a head coach in the XFL. I have no comment.
I don't think he will bring the notoriety, name, and recruiting that I am looking for in an SMU coach.
What do you all think?

Re: DiNardo
As a cursory LSU follower I would not like to see DiNardo. DiNardo is a loser coach with a loser attitude. You hear so much of some players being a cancer in the clubhouse. From what I saw of what he did with a respectable LSU team he was the cancer in that clubhouse. His bad attitude toward the program when things hit a snag just boiled over to his staff and eventually his players. Let him go somewhere else.

Don't know anything about the him...
But that in itself should be enough of an indictment to remove him from consideration. Certainly his record doesn't sell him.
Too many other great prospects on the list to go for this guy.

Re: DiNardo
Anyone who coaches in the XFL is a loser. SMU is taking a huge step in the wrong direction by hiring Dinardo. He isn't going to do anything better than Cavan did. We need a big name and we need one now. Enough with no-name coaches who have great records at no-name schools.

To the best of my knowledge we haven't hired DiNardo yet, only interviewed, and would be surprised (not to mention very disgusted) if we did.
SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.
