Congratulations to Tech!

Sweet Sixteen bound! At least one team will represent our great State of Texas with honor! That trashy bunch from Austin sure didn't!

Good for Tech

Post by Sam I Am »

Not that I'm a Red Raider fan, but Tech lives in the shadow of UT and A&M too. Bobby Knight has given TTU credibility. Oh, that some coach could do the same for SMU.

No he hasn't -- it's still in Lubbock.

I don't know -- maybe I'm just angry because my bracket is completely shot.

I hope TT loses and Booby Knight goes away from basketball. Maybe the biggest jerk in the game. It is about time for him to beat up on another cub reporter and kiss the major reporters' butt's again.

Thumper, you are posting from the lovely TYLER Texas? I can hardly see your credibility either.

I am cheering the Red Raiders & Bobby Knight on! That combination in Lubbock gives me something to watch this time of the year.

I disagree, GUN.... Tyler is like Paris (the one in France) compared to Lubbock. I'm with Thumper on this one.

And as much as I hate North Carolina, it will be a shame when Knight passes Dean Smith.

OP, are you saying that if Bob Knight was here and had SMU in the sweet sixteen you wouldn't be happy because of his past? I would love to have NCAA tournaments all the time I dont care what the coach did in the past as long as he is winning...Though I guess sometimes the as long as we win strategy can lead to the death penalty, so as long as there are no
NCAA violations, I'm for it.

The Way to Beat Bobby

Post by Captain E J Smith »

The way to beat bobby is to get a bunch of fans behind him using profanity that he has never heard before. And I guess he gets distracted trying to remember all the new words so that he can use them later.

I guess I'm the only one who thinks we did nothing wrong when we got the death penalty. Don't get me wrong, I HATE, HATE, HATE cheating, but recruiting violations in division I football isn't really cheating. It's against the rules, but if everyone does it, it is just part of the game. Nobody is going to fault an offensive lineman for doing a few technically forbidden things when the ref isn't looking - it is just part of the game. In the same way paying players and cheating at recruiting is just part of the game. As long as we don't jump offsides or grab any facemasks, we aren't doing anything wrong. Too bad we are the only one who can't do that anymore.

Couch 'em we did a lot wrong and were among many that deserved the death penalty. Unfortunately, the NCAA only chose to make an example out of us.

That's just my point. Everyone was/IS cheating, but only we get punished. If nobody else is getting punished, how can it be called a violation of the rules? The death penalty is like throwing someone out of a bball game for traveling. Getting called for traveling is just part of basketball (well, unless its the NBA) and when it happens, you get your little slap on the wrist, and nobody is that mad about it. Its a normal event. By only punishing programs with slaps on the wrist, they were treating cheating programs like they were traveling. So we tried to travel a few times. We got caught. But we got thrown out of the game for it. Was it 'wrong'? Yes, clearly. Was it really that WRONG? I don't think so. We are no more a criminal than any other school, and less so than the NCAA itself.
