SMU Ranked in Football

Post by AusTxPony »

Interesting site. Gave me hope for the future of SMU football to see how often we made the Top 20 in the past.

1940 - #16
1947 - #3
1948 - #10
1954 - #17
1958 - #18
1966 - #9, #10
1968 - #14, #16
1980 - #20. #20
1981 - #5
1982 - #2, #2
1983 - #12, #11
1984 - #8, #8

Missing decades - 70's and 90's - let those be the last!

Yikes, we're halfway through the next decade and things are not looking good for top 20 appearance.

Ah, once again the 1980's. What a different brand of football we played then. For those that were not alive on this board, you have never known SMU to be among college football's elite. For those of us that were, it makes the last 15 years that much more difficult.

With all that said, I remain optimistic (but realistic) about the future.

Some of us alive then now know exactly why we are in the predicament in which we find ourselves....

Hope all concerned enjoyed it while it lasted. Anybody else bitter we cuoldn't beat Arkansas in 82?

Absolutely, Diehard! The sixties rocked. Plus, there was no payroll to meet.

Let me get this straight-we should have been running a clean program like Barry Switzer/OU and Jackie Sherrill at A&M?? I think we all know everyone was cheating like mad even Baylor. Could we have fielded a team without paying in those days?
