Season is almost here...
It's almost August. I remember the past eight Augusts how I would sit around getting fired up about SMU football. I'd read the message boards and Web sites to analyze the upcoming prospects for the season.
I'd always get fired up -- there was always reason for hope. There was that new QB from Stephenville once. There was that LB named Marcus once. Then last year there was that big-time TTech transfer playing RB. Then that first year with the great new coach -- lots of hope for the Navy game.
I'm keeping my hopes very low this year. Perhaps things will be different this year.

I got excited at the beginning of every season ...
1st year -- You don't know any better, only previous game I saw was KU.
2nd year -- New coach, New Team.
3rd Year -- We won 3 of the last 5 the previous season, it's promising.
Last Year -- It's your senior year, you've gotta hope your last year is a good one.
Hope the team comes out against Baylor like they did against Kansas when I visited SMU for the first time. Just a 1-0 start would be nice to the 2005 season. A win there, and one against ECU would prevent any Bottom-10 list ranking for the team. Who knows what an early win could do for momentum, also.
Now that I'm expecting 3-4 wins, instead of hoping for 6+ -- watch SMU surprise me and win 6-7 games. It'd be a great late-graduation present.

I feel the exact same way. I feel like Charlie Brown kicking the football with Lucy holding the ball. Maybe to have zero expectations is the way to go.

Welcome aboard--now you have this to look forward to: With no expectations you cannot be disappointed when the team loses. And you will pleasantly surprised when they when. No expectations is a win-win proposition.

Both TCU & BU have ??? at QB-- I like our chances...

I agree with Stallion here, I don't see Gunn as a question mark at all. He's a talented QB. Baylor, on the other hand, is beatable, especially in Ford Stadium. Not a guaranteed win, by any means -- Coach Morriss is doing a decent job collecting some players -- but they're beatable. After we beat them (I hope, I hope), then I'll address the frogs.
Can't wait for the season!
