Talk about a tough break for a kid. Bennett came to SMU because he knew he would go great with Mike Ford and the air attack. Instead, he ended up in a run first offense. But that kid did have some amazing speed.

Convincing victory over traditional power to conclude the first bowl team at SMU in 12 years and a cameo role and poignant ending to the career of a former All-American candidate whose career was sidetracked by injury and the greatness of the Pony Express. Nice moment-of course not near as nice as beating a a very poor Division 1-AA school (wasn't NTSU about 3-8 that year in Division 1-A) who we have beaten 95% of the time we have played them in our history-but nice none the less. Just how many victories over Division 1-AA schools will be in the Top 100. Its shocking to me that xsomeone could have so little an appreciation of SMU Football History to include a victory over a 3-8 Division 1-AA football team in the Top 40 or so moments in SMU history.

This was the icing on the cake of an almost perfect football weekend for me. Family, and friends came in to see Longview play Plano ( I live in enemy territory now ) on Friday night at Texas Stadium. We lost to a Wildcat team that probably won, or came close to the state championship.

Everybody stayed over, and went to the SMU Arkansas game the next day. It was great seeing Mike Ford again at QB leading us to a blowout of the pig people.

We were headed to the Holiday Bowl, our first bowl game since the 68 Bluebonnet Bowl. so I have to rank it in my top 10 SMU games that I've actually attended.

This was a good game to watch. I was lucky to have a pretty good view of the game. The D also played very well. Ark came out on fire and the D mad adjustments and shut down Ark for 3 an1/2 quarters. Also, Ark went on to beat Tulane in the Hall of Fame bowl that year so Ark wasn't a complete patsy that year. Also, the starting O was kept in the game to get James his 100 yards. Once that was done, the O line was replaced. Four 5th years (Jusko, Barnes, Mason, Fox) gat to leave the field to a nice crowd appreciation and celebrate a very successful season (Ark was the last game of the year).

One other aside, this game was played in a very cold rain at the start of the game. So 3 not only rushed for 100+ yards each, but also did it on a wet field.
