Ponies in the NFL

Post by DallasDiehard »

Good to see Jacoby Rhinehart and Donald Mitchell were not left unprotected for the Houston Texans' expansion draft. Neither was Dale Hellestrae, who played the last few games of the year for the Baltimore Ravens, although they aren't required to have their list yet (playoff teams get a little longer to evaluate their rosters) and I've heard he's expected to retire.

Of course, the players exposed to the expansion draft have to be under contract for next season. Does anyone know if Coby and Mitchell are under contract for next year?

Any other former SMU players in the NFL I'm forgetting here?

Rodnick Phillips signed a deal worth $1.2 million with the Seahawks (not sure length of contract). Apparently Ricky Waters isn't coming back.

Chris Sanders signed with the Falcons and is go to NFL Europe under contract by them.

Jeff Pennington will play for the Dallas Desperados this coming year in hope of eventually making the Cowboys roster and becoming the next Moose. Good luck JP! 46 for life!

He is already our Moose....I wish the best for Jeff, he was not used nearly enough by Cavan and company.
SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.

Supposedly Rob Gunther an SMU former walk-on and Trey Bandy will also be trying out for the Dallas Desporados. No official word on Jeff trying out has been confirmed but he was seen at the auditions for that football movie held Sat. in Los Colinas. Apparently he didn't make the first cut because he looked to old. They were looking for 18-21 year olds.

What about Koran Riley? I know he didn't graduate a Pony but he still played here. If you don't remember who he is then ask Swami about him. They got to know each other very well one day. He was drafted last year. Did he get any playing time this year???

Karon got drafted pretty early by 'Da Bears'. Registered playing in 7 games with 1 tackle.

Karon is a specimen. He was completely jacked as a freshmen having never even lifted weights before. Only reason he came to SMU was b/c of coach Malin. Malin bought him sweats and dinners and a phat per diem. Not very team oriented. Very cocky. Would lose his cool very easily. Still liked him though.

I remember the Holder incident. Holder punked him plenty of times after that.

Last I heard Pennington might be on Survivor or Fear Factor. He still resides in Dallas, but has a nice pad in Bel Air next to Clooney. The parties he throws are unparallel. My buddies told me he has dated some major babes as well. Natalie Portman, Jessica Simpson to name a few. Lucky dog! He won the price is right show case showdown back when he was in school, and sold everything for cash. Then he was extremely successful investing in the stock market timing the Internet boom just right. I should have come to him for advice. I also know that he and some buddy started a software company his senior year which he ended up selling for $20 million. After all this, he just decided he wanted to try acting. Wish him luck.

Wish I had some of his skills too.

Ohhhhh lord. I am cracking up Loco Stang!!! I guess JP and Megan Ford called it quites after over a year of dating. You obviously know him very well, is it true that he can drive a golf ball over 400 yards, hung like a horse, and walk on water??? We should have given that kid a bid after all. We cut JP because we felt like he acted a little too getto. He came from a rough high school (Pearce) and was in a local gang know as the "Bud Boys" that went around terrorizing old women. Glad to hear he has rebounded! A little sad to see he and Meg called it off. For those of you not in the "know" Megan is the daughter of Gerold J. Ford. JP and her have been dating for a while, I will miss chatting with him during the games for he will no longer be in the suites I am assuming. However he did win the lottery so I guess he doesn't need her anymore.

As for the Riley-Holder incident...well we should let Swami explain that one.

GO PonIKEs!!!

A little too ghetto for the Pike house? That stuff is encouraged by you guys.

Isn't that like the Phi Delts saying "he's a little too rich for us" or the Lambda Chis saying "he's a little too self righteous for us" or the Sigma Chis saying "he relies on roofies too much for us."
Or the KA's saying "he likes hunting and country music too much for us."

That is too funny.

Actually you guys are the ones on campus known to be ghetto, or SoCal. This a description given by a Pi Phi and Theta who are friends of mine. Low Riders, Earings, Tanning Salon memberships, Frosted Hair, Cordoroy shorts, Tupac & Biggie, Bone Thugs, tinted windows on BMW M3's(ideal gangsta ride). Need I say more. If he was ghetto at the time of Rush, he would probably have been an ideal PonIKE!candidate.

That is some funny stuff locostang! JP to ghetto for the pikes, are you kidding me?That makes perfect sense, a pledge is to ghetto for the pikes, so he goes phi delt. I got it!

As for anyone who was wondering about Karon and I, we got into a scuffle one year during one on one pass rush. We wrestled around for a bit and it got pretty heated. I ended up with a cut over my right eye from getting hit with my own helmet. Not my proudest moment as a player, but what are you gonna do. We were cool with one another from then on out, having legendary battles on the field and in the dorms with the Playstation. I wish him the best.
