I'm a senior at Plano West, and we've got a junior qb, Bryce Merckling, who is looking really good so far. He didn't begin the year as the starter, but looks to have won the job through his play.

Our one loss so far, to Rowlett, probably would have been a win if we hadn't waited till the 2nd half to put him in. We were down 27-7, and he came in and lit them up for 328 yards and 6 touchdowns (4 passing, 2 running).

He got the start last week against a pretty poor Naaman Forest team and pretty much put the game away in the first half, throwing for 2 touchdowns and running for 3 more.

I don't know where he sits next to other area quarterbacks-probably off the radar as he's getting his first action now. It'll be interesting to see what he does when we start playing some higher caliber opponents.

What kind of arm does he have?

I noticed he was the leading the DFW Area in Passing according to the DMN.

I don't have any specifics at the moment, just that he looks like he could be a great player for us.

I'm at school right now, so I'll try to ask around the team and try to get some hard info on him today.

Bryce also played varsity baseball for us last year as a sophomore. He pitched a shutout over The Colony and was named DMN's "Athlete of the Week".
