A&M's Gameplan

Post by LakeHighlandsPony »

My guess at what is going on in Fran's head. The Aggies will try and line up with 2 tight ends and ram it down our throat. They have watched the 2nd half of the Baylor game and know we could wear out in the 2nd half. The Aggies passing game is so bad they will just try and hammer it at us. The key for the Ponies is to get some drives going and keep our defense of the field. Too many 3 and out's could spell doom for us. Bennett needs to not be afraid to go deep. TCU cheated up on defense the whole game. We can't have the Aggie secondary playing up with LB's and expect to run on A&M. I would lob a few deep just to keep the secondary guessing a little. This is my 2 cents for the game.

Our passing game is so bad? Most Aggies will tell you our passing game is better than our running game. Last year our running game sucked. It looked better in game 1 and our passing game didn't look good but I still feel a lot better about our passing game. Last year our passing game is what kept us in games and I think it will be better this year.

I was going on the fact your Passing offense is ranked 98th. I bet Fran keeps it on the ground.

But that's based on one game so the stats are misleading. Last year A&M ranked 23rd in the nation in passing (261 yds a game) and 44th rushing (167 yds a game). I expect us to be at around 250 a game this year in passing when it is all said and done.

If A&M comes out running the option, it will be a long day for the Mustangs, especially if we have trouble getting our offense going, which I suspect we will.

If A&M comes out and does what they did last year - pass to set up the run - that sets up very well for the Mustangs, and will help us keep things close.

its likely to be a long day either way-but I don't know if I agree with you-don't think that's A&Ms strength these days. About 3/4 th of Texas A&Ms offense came from the passing game last year if you throw in the QB scrambling. Every time I saw them try to run the ball they looked out of sync and struggled. Texas A&M only had two games(Clemson and Baylor where a RB ran for over 100 yards-and in losing to Baylor it was exactly 100 yards) But there are usually multiple ways for superior talent to beat a team with interior talent and it generally involves execution and holding onto the football.
