Tight ends

Post by Horseshoe »

We may need more wide receivers (at least after this year), but the tight end spot looks fairly solid. We have Hamp for one more year and Hrncir (who's gotten a lot better) for two. And this Ryan Kennedy kid is supposed to be a steal - tall, fluid runner, great hands, and I heard Darrin Johnson has lost 20-30 pounds (down to somewhere in the 260s) and will play tight end, not defensive line or offensive line. Can you imagine being a DB and looking up to see that guy coming across the middle?

If I'm a DB and I see Darrin Johnson, I'm first of all hoping he drops the ball. If that doesn't work, I'm diving at his ankles, hoping to trip him. If that also doesn't work, I'm grabbing ahold of his ankle a la Jeff Van Gundy on Alonzo Mourning's leg. But if I can't get to the ground, I'm running off the field and praying he doesn't kill me on the way to the end zone. If DJ can catch, he's going to cause headaches for defensive coordinators.

Maybe he can turn out like Bubba Franks - only bigger and stronger!

If Johnson becomes half the player Bubba Franks is, we've got an All-America on our hands.
