Getting the Word Out

Post by Bergermeister »

I was at the Tarrant County Convention Center last Friday and couldn't help but notice the purple & white TCU Frog banners displayed on the light posts on that main street that runs from the convention center down to the courthouse. Good idea. Also, there are large frog banners all along University Dr. (in front of TCU) and along Berry St. past the baseball stadium. They are updated to announce the next home football game. SMU had some little-bitty banners in Snider Plaza and the shopping area around the SMU Bookstore a couple of years ago, but they weren't too eye-catching. Snider Plaza has some new banners in fall colors that promote its stores. It sure would look sharp if Hillcrest (and maybe SMU Blvd. and Airline) was lined with some large red and blue banners that extolled school spirit. Too cheesy? Against UP city ordinance? Just an idea. I have been a frequent visitor to TCU this fall - family member playing frog soccer - and they just seem to have a lot on the ball. They do a lot of the "little things" that are seemingly missing at SMU. Maybe it's time we "sweat the small stuff." (Can you imagine trying to put SMU banners in downtown Dallas? There would be a (another) fight at the city council meeting. Probably because the "S" in SMU stands for "Southern" and that is definitely Confederate and racist.)

St. Mary's, UCLA, USC & all the others here in SoCal have the very same banners, etc. as well
BRING BACK THE GLORY DAYS OF SMU FOOTBALL!!!

For some strange reason, one of the few universities that REFUSE to use their school colors: Harvard Crimson & Yale Blue.
