I'm not trying to split hairs here but I did want to clear something up. The National Championship for the Ponies came in 1935 led by "The Corsicana Comet" Bobby Wilson.
Doak was on the Hilltop in 1945, and 1947-1949. We won the SWC title in 47 and 48
Rote, who Lettered in 1948-1950, was part of a great backfield with Walker but emerged as an All-American in his own right in 1950. He had his own cover on Life magazine that year, two years after Doak's famous cover.

Fair enough, PPP. We're glad to have you on board and also, it's good to see folks that are interested in the Mustangs' storied past. It is however, a common misconception that Doak's team was the national championship team. Anyway:
