Speaking of Ticket Prices...

Post by HixsontoLeVias »

...after watching last nights "effort", I am extremely grateful that my tickets for the Memphis / SMU game were complimentary. My family and I will gather after dinner tonight to explore the pros & cons of wearing anything with "SMU" on it to Saturday evenings game. Not sure I want to listen to the Memphis High fans rant and rall at me for 2 hours.....btw, Memphis fans are talking sooooooo much trash. C-USA sucks, we deserve better...SMU / Rice / etc. are pitiful...Memphis will beat SMU by 30....bottom line, they are probably right on all points, but, not much fun to listen to it. I told me daughters, with ALL sincerity, I would rather have you work at McDonalds versus attending Memphis State, but, they have a good bball team.....let's hope we keep it somewhat respectful this weekend, it would be NICE to have something to cheer about. Long Live Pete Lodwick.

Cmon HTL, you have to wear some pony clothes. 6 of us will be in the rafters and everyone will have a smu hat and shirt on. It is worth getting into it with the Memphis fans - SMU doesn't come out here that often.
As far as the press coverage, did you see yesterday's article about how bad CUSA is? They rated the 12 teams and after SMU (at 5), they had everyone else tied for 12th. It has gotten a little old to read a different article every day in the Commercial Appeal about how the Tigers aren't going to get a 1 seed because of the conference they are in.
Anyway, we will be up top in one of the corners wearing our Pony gear. Hopefully our boys will play with some passion (like the ECU guys did last night) and keep it close or even shock the world.

Have fun at the game, hopefully it wont get too out of hand. I would imagine we lose by 20-25 pts at least.

I guess I misspoke....just being realistic. To be out of hand is 30-40pts and is embarassing. 20 pts is realistic being on the road against a top 10 team seeing what I have seen so far from our beloved Mustangs.

When they miss the # 1 seed, they can look back & be reminded by the a$$-whipping they took (at home) from UT.

Plus opening with Lemoyne-Owen & Christian Bros does help your rating much in Sagarin.

No hate, Tiger-- in fact I think you have damn good team. But not a 1 seed.

True, Lemoyne-Owen and Christian Brothers were EXHIBITIONS, but you didn't have play 'em. They were missed opportunities to go after another big win or 2.

Now, after the complaints circulating in Memphis about the weak cusa (which appears true), don't you wish you would've scheduled somebody besides Lemoyne-Owen, Christian Brothers, Jackson St., & Lamar?

And, the UT loss WILL keep you out of any chance for a high ranking (even though UT probably drops 1 to OkSt).

Um...we've played (and beaten)...

Wisconsin-Milwaukee (tournament team)
Alabama (when they were ranked)
UCLA
@ Cincinnati
@ Ole Miss
Gonzaga
Winthrop (yes, they were a tournament team)

Those are just a few of the teams we've beaten this season...not to mention coming within 3 points of the number one team in the nation, the undefeated Duke Blue Devils.

And you're going to sit there and call us out over doing the same thing that pretty much every other team in America does, which is play an exhibition game or two...? LOL

HtL: you KNOW you and the family will be wearing the colors. Those of us who are still loyal to the SMU athletic programs are completely hopeless. I find it easy to be a "good sport" as a visiting fan when your team is getting blown out by your host...seem to recall a REALLY ugly football game in Raleigh in the Cavan years. At least your hosts will take pity on you...I even got an invite for a post game beer. I seriously doubt anyone will be dumping any cold beverages on you as the Mustangs pull off a shocking upset. This one should be over by halftime.

...you are right, CP. My girls have already picked out their "SMU outfits" for the game. One daughter will be wearing an SMU sweatshirt with another SMU shirt underneath (in case she gets hot)..I, of course, will belt out my obligitory "PLAY BY THE RULES, MEMPHIS!!", after they commit their first foul...should be fun. Watch for us on TV, we are at center court, second row, not sure which side..."on any given night..." Long Live Joey Ceravolo.

Fall of 2000? I was at that game too, drove with 3 buddies all night from Dallas in a Civic to get there by kickoff. My buddies got all wasted and we wandered the SMU section being obnoxious. Since my friends were a little "big", there was no room for me at the end of the aisle and I ended up sitting in the aisle itself. 52-10 or something like that...great game. BUT, I was there and I was wearing SMU gear, waving an SMU flag, and being a totally loyal pony fan waaaaay out of his element.

According to the Memphis website, the game is being broadcast on WLMT in Memphis. Checked smumustangs.com but no TV broadcast was listed. Of course you could always watch All-Access.
