Signs of hope?

Post by giacfsp »

They might not be our most talented players, but Jon Killen and Donatas Rackauskas both showed significant improvement in the C-USA tournament. Now let's see them build on that next year!

Brian Morris should be a good player. He has the body and the hands to to be very effective. I'd say he exceeded expectations in his freshman season besises the injury. Same with Bamba. It was a bad season, but all we can do is build.

yep, its frustrating, but you gotta start somewhere. Every team that misses the NCAA tournament this year, over 300 of em, has to think that way. There is no other way to think about college athletics. Its a cycle of constant turnover. Its sounds trite, but the fact that we've been in this position before many times really has nothing to do with whether or not Bamba Fall and Brian Morris are building blocks. They will prove their own merit, and I bet they both exceeded your low expectations and my moderate expectations for them this year.

I hope Bamba lives in the weight room between now and next season, and develops one solid go-to move in the low post. If he does, the entire outlook of the team will change.

There can be no hope when you commit 26 turnovers. If we are going to hope for anything, lets hope we get a new coach!

True this year. False last year, w/ 3 seniors and a junior starting. This year it is undeniably true.

That and a second-year coach = a mediocre season. Don't know what else you would expect.

The day will come when I am sitting on my couch at 5pm on selection Sunday and SMU is a "bubble team" at least and we are sweating whether we get in or not.....ok I'll stop dreaming now.

......team played hard this week in Memphis, never gave up. We have some talented, athletic kids...Morris and Bamba are two we can build around....rebounding, especially on the defensive end, was strong this week, that takes strength, guts and some athletic talent to excell in that area...to many turnovers today, but, UAB does that to people, have all year (ala..Nolan's 40 minutes of terror or pain, whatever...sat next to him, btw, what a chump)...UAB is a good, solid team..will go to the show. We really have no inside presence, despite RACK stepping up this week...how many 3-5 footers can a team miss?? NO / ZERO points off of turnovers...AND, we simply turned it over tooo much, and shot poorly, etc., etc.....I think Tubbs can build a competitive team...but, without fan support, with a bunch a whinning, complaining about EVERYTHING, on this board, on the sports shows, at the office, etc., etc..who would want to come here?? EVERYONE I met this week was absolutely passionate about SMU, concerned about success, and open to anything.....football seems heading in a decent direction, I think hoops is not far behind....I have a new attitude about SMU after interacting with the Secules / Shawn H. / Chris M., Turner, Carlton, etc. this week..we have some talented, passionate people involved....success can only follow. Long Live The Mustang Band, the cheerleaders, Coach Tubbs, the team, the athletic staff...and the 7 SMU fans in the stands.

Hix, not even any player parents up there? thats kind of strange. There is alot of whining going on these days around here. I agree nothing will change until there is less whining and more supporting going on. I wanted Charlie Waters hired 4 years ago in football. But in Bennett's second and third year when he was down, you didn't hear me kicking him and condemning him. Some people seem to take Tubbs' inevitable struggles as an open invitation to say 'I told you so'. That, i dont understand, especially if you are fair minded and care about SMU. Frustration gets the best of people sometimes and no doubt all of us have plenty to be frustrated about as smu fans. I hope there is some light at the end of this tunnel. I think all of this can have a happy ending where there are bowl games, NCAA appearances and proud moments. Those things would happen again if the people that care most about smu athletics would pull somewhat in the same direction.

r u serious? You really think his 10% player graduation rate would translate well to SMU? Why post this kind of stuff.

Signing players like Kenyon Martin from Dallas wouldn't hurt!
