I can not comprehend how anyone but Orsini can make the call, but......all you lawyers out there, if Orsini makes the call and Copeland does the announce (he would have to if the hire was before June 1, correct?) what happens if Orsini does pull a McCartney and reneges. Is Orsini officially under contract already? Can he come in earlier even if only as a consultant? Can Copeland step down earlier than previously stated? Can Orsini start earlier as AD? Although I think we need to hire someone today, what are the ramifications of a Copeland hire under Orsini guidance. Seems to me there could be some problems that could be underlying in this type of transaction but I am not sure what if any there are.
if Orsini did not technically have the authority to make an offer of employment because he was not yet an employee of SMU it would still be enforceable if it was approved by the Board of Trustees or executive officer of the university like President Turner.
Orsini will make this hire with help from the administration. I am wondering how close he is with Kirk Speraw the head coach at UCF? He has done wonders for the UCF program and has great pedigree. He was an asst for Lon Kruger at Florida and played under Lute Olsen.
Thank you Stallion. I feel more comfortable that Orsini will be totally involved. No knock on Copeland. I just want the new man to have a say in any new hires starting right now.
