Informal poll, where is SMU getting press?
In today's Chicago Tribune, the anticipated signing of Matt Doherty was reported. Love seeing the Mustangs get attention up here.

Please. It is good for the program and for recruiting. The positive news of his hire has definitely outweighed any local criticism of Tubbs' firing.

outweighed? Keep dreaming. But nevermind that, I am just saying you always get mentioned when you hire a new coach. Quit trying to paint this like we just landed a man on the moon or something.

My enthusiasm is on reporting the 'anticipated' signing, not a press release. Interesting, since it was not from offical sources and it would be rare for a non-Texas paper to give us coverage.
Glass is offically half full, gang.
Thanks, Steve. Now schedule ND in FB. We could host them in the Cotton Bowl. Yeah, baby (Austin Powers)

It is true that every D1 hire usually gets at least mention in the notes of any publication. This however is different. We are a headline on the front page of ESPN.com. Not just the college basketball page but the front page of ESPN.com. I have not been an SMU fan as long as many on this board bc of my age, but this is certainly more publicity than I have ever been used to. It IS a big deal, no matter how much a small group of you don't want it to be.
***DISCLAIMER***
I was born in '83 so I cannot attest to Pony Express days. All my first hand knowledge of SMU athletics is obviously post death penalty. When I started following bball we were in the Dement era (Willie Davis is still my favorite SMU player) and my first SMU football game was QB'd by the great Ramon Flanigan.

Doherty's acceptance of our offer is the biggest story about SMU athletics in the last 15 years.
