yes, he was most likely coming to SMU. We'll see if we can still sniff guys from SOC, Desoto and Dunbar. It wasnt just DISD that liked Tubbs.

I wonder. He ain't exactly the Hottest Blue Chipper coming in at the No. 98 Player in the Texas Class of 2006 according to Texas Hoops.

Tubbs firing may be the best thing that ever happened to his legacy. I imagine we'll be hearing about a lot of players that were "going to" commit to SMU if only Tubbs was still around.

I swear if he'd been fired in December, there would be people on here claiming we would've landed Arthur.

This may be the gift that keeps on giving for years.

And how many Texas Top 100 do we have on our team now? 1,2?

Alright maybe not Oden but OJ Mayo had already filled out his paper work a full year ahead of time and picked a dorm room.

Amazing how suddenly there were a list of signed and sealed recruits that no one reported prior to the switch. Never mind that we went from a local assistant coach to a former national coach of the year and that is supposedly driving recruits away???

BTW I think I've now seen stories on all the OU kids who got releases and SMU's not being considered by any. Just some follow-up on some of the rampant, wild speculation and general goffiness posted the other day by certain Cheerleaders.

Spaeking of OJ Mayo, word is he is looking to possibly transfer to Oak Hill for his Sr. season. If I was his HS coach I would be crying.

Oak Hill is sponsored by Nike, so the rumors grew even more serious when OJ switched from a Reebok sponsored AAU team to a Nike one.

Other speculation is that Kansas State will end up with OJ because of his new AAU Team's ties to Huggins.

But all of this wouldn't have mattered because if Tubbs stayed than he was going to sign with us.

I heard Aldridge was going to transfer from Texas to SMU, but then Tubbs left and he decided to be a top 5 pick in the NBA instead.

I agree. Oden and Mayo would have been a hell of a combo.

I wont debate his ranking, but he had a strong showing at the state tournament. As for whether he was coming or not, the source for the rumor was not me, it was a post on texasroundball.com. In case you havent noticed there are not many smu cheerleaders over there. For what its worth, I did hear the kid was coming here. Have any of you considered that he wasnt Tubbs first choice necessarily and that signing day was so imminent when tubbs got fired that there probably were guys ready to commit at the time? This is not people making stuff up for the benefit of Tubbs legacy. Roberts is not an end all be all recruit, but he was from power program locally that could provide fruit in the future too. I guess some of you geniuses think that Tubbs wasnt going to sign anybody this spring.

That was where the timing of this firing was so botched up. We'll never know who was going to sign on signing day, if anyone. Had they waited until after signing day, we'd might have had a few kids sign on the dotted line that might have helped the program, or none. I have been a Copeland defender for some time, but this was one of the worst timed firings in history. You can always decide after the fact whether you want to release a player from his LOI if you fire the coach, but if he never signs the LOI, he stays a free agent.
