Orland Sentinel: 6 Best offseason coaching hires

"5. SMU: Matt Doherty in for Jimmy Tubbs. Doherty spent one year at FAU, going 15-13 this past season, and some folks are criticizing him for moving along so quickly. Yeah, like he's supposed to stay at a lesser program in a lesser league for less money. Doherty had success at Notre Dame and North Carolina, is known as a good recruiter and says his experience at UNC taught him some lessons. SMU should be a major player in Conference USA, and Doherty's entry into the Texas talent pool will make the recruiting trail mighty intriguing."

Interesting that we get more press in the Orlando newspaper. I don't even know if the DMN knows that CUSA exists due to the extent of their coverage.
Willis to slot receiver!

Mabey we could get an SMU athlete doing the "hook'em" hand sign. That seems to be a VERY popular picture in the DMN!

Quit beating the horse. It's dead. This story is not about SMU, it's about good coaching hires, one of which happens to be at SMU. It's also not a story about Kansas State, Seton Hall, Pepperdine, Mizzou or Wright State, but they're mentioned there, too.

I would say that this is a positive for SMU. A paper sees us very soon becoming a top contender in CUSA, I do as well. We have the talent we just have to use it in the right way. Fall is a force downlow and could easily be a C-USA First-Teamer. Roberts has game, Willingham has game, a lot of other players are very talented, give this some time, also I think someone will come out of the woodshed to be a key player next year for the Mustangs.

I just do not know how Pepperdine's hire is ranked above ours. Sure, he had success at FRESNO CITY COLLEGE. No one knows if he will be able to recruit or not. IMO that hire should not make the top 6. But oh well.

That might be the ugliest picture of a columnist I have ever seen. It's not for me to say if the guy is good looking or not, but even if he is, that picture would make anyone look bad. I think he is about to kill the camera.
