Sometimes ego is good, sometimes it seems foolish.

Richard Bartel had a little strut about him. He's a talented QB with a cannon of an arm, and he knows it. And you want the leader of your offense to have extreme confidence, because that wears off on his teammates.

But then on special teams, there was Wesley Medlock woofing at the LaTech blockers when he was lined up against a LaTech punt. He was jawing and pointing, I guess telling them he was coming in for a block. Confidence is a great thing, but you've got to back it up. The game wasn't out of reach yet, and his showboating ran the risk of looking stupid if the Bulldogs came back and won. After all, it's not like we were 7-0 going into the game and could assume we were going to roll the 'Dogs based on talent alone.

As the saying goes, "It ain't braggin' if you can do it." Seems to me the Ponies, and Medlock specifically, hadn't done enough up to that point for him to call out his opponents.

I understand your point. I remember the play to which you are referring, and maybe we shouldn't be showboating yet, but Medlock definitely backed up his mouth. If I remember that play correctly, he pushed his guy back behind the kicker, and then continued the block so long that I thought we would be getting a penalty from the fact that he hadn't let up on the guy long after the whistle blew. I understand the game wasn't out of reach yet, but it made me feel good that our team can have that much confidence that they are good enough to win, even if their record doesn't show it yet.

I agree with abezontar - it's nice to see the Ponies playing with a little swagger!

Medlock has nothing to showboat/talk trash about, yet he does.

This team has nothing to brag/swagger about, so they better not. They are 1-7 in a weak conference not playing any top 25 teams.

There is a difference between confidence and having the attitude you all are talking about--which we have no reason to have.

If you knew Medlock, you would know not to take this so seriously. Don't have a cow. Image

I remember reading Medlock's stories in the Daily Campus. Sounds like he's got a great sense of humor, so maybe all his talking on the field is just him having fun?

Medlock had great aspirations when recruited. He's suffered the fate of many talented players, that of limited exposure to the coaching staff. Medlock has finally started to get some game time. I applaud him for showing attitude which is sometimes discouraged by some of the coaches.Attitude comes with all good football players. If you want a bunch of suckups, coach something else.

SMUFan, you are right on point with your observations. ...And fbdad, I agree with you. I like to see that attitude in our players. It seems like they stay on the upside and are more spirited when it is displayed.
