Varsity Bookstore
The Mrs. and I were driving down Hillcrest the other day when we suddenly noticed that the Varsity Bookstore has gone out of business! Does anyone have the 411 on what happened? The Varsity Bookstore was always a staple on Hillcrest Ave. along with the Varsity Shoppe (now Culwell & Sons) and New York Subs (still there!). Flash (a clothing store) recently went out of business, too. And Goff's Hamburgers will soon be shutting its doors in the location on Hillcrest that it moved to after leaving the Lovers Lane spot.

SMU promoted the bookstore on Mockingbird a lot, I imagine they were getting some form of monetary benefit for it. I saw a flyer in the commuter lounge with the out of business sale on it, they said they just weren't doing enough sales, the SMU bookstore was blowing them out. Books weren't always cheaper there, either -- amazon, baby.
Sir, shooting-star, sir.

I thought Goff's was doing pretty good business. Good crowd every time I have been.
BTW, that PONY Card is one of the great scams ever invented. I was in the bookstore buying a hat a year ago and saw a girl buy an ipod with one of those things. I looked behind the counter and they had xbox games, itunes cards and all kinds of other cr@p. Not to mention the Starbucks. I bet the bookstore sells a lot of that stuff to unsuspecting parents.
