What happened to the Stables.....
or what ever the air conditioned tent in the end zone was called. My wife was melting and I told her we could go in there and cool off only to find it no longer exists. Too much money to support?

Seems like they're saving a lot of $$ in the AD with fewer salaries to pay.Big10Ponyfan wrote:I was told they weren't in the budget this year so it was not going to happen. I was disappointed to hear that. It was a great place to go before kickoff.
Then again, you know what they say...money is always easier to spend if it's not yours.
What they should do is bring the Stables back, get a zoning variance or whatever it takes, make it a 'private club,' membership of which requires a) season ticket purchase, and b) Stables surcharge.

Maybe somebody should make the suggestion to marketing (if there's anybody left there) or Orsini directly. I feel like I've already exceeded my letters allowed to Orsini this month.
I agree it would be a nice bonus when buying season tickets. It might actually encourage me to buy season tickets instead mooching off of friends and only buying when I can't mooch.

I know most of you think everyone associated with the athletic department are idiots, but there is no need to pass on this "brilliant" suggestion. It has been discussed, pleaded about, argued over ad nauseum. Heck, someone has brought it up at pretty much every Mustang Club Board of Directors or committee meeting for at least 2 years. It's not that the idea has not been vetted, it's just that there are many difficulties in getting approval for alcohol at that tent. And until it happens, my personal opinion is that the Stables was kind of a waste -- 50 people a game enjoying the air conditioning, a not so great view and a chair massage was not enough to justify the costs.

It's not so much that everybody thinks that the athletic department is full of idiots. It's more about caring about our alma mater and wanting a voice in matters that are important to us.
My letter to Orsini was about the yellow shi(r)ts. I think that they make the gameday experience worse for everyone, and if they haven't yet, they will at some point. I think that spending the money to get better staffing would be a good thing.
The tent is more about making the experience a better one. There, obviously, are people that miss the Stables. I never went there. Would I have gone there if I knew exactly what it was? Probably. Would I have gone there if it was a benefit from buying season tickets? Probably. Would I buy season tickets if that was a benefit from buying season tickets? Yes.
I don't care if the Stables are there are not, but if other people care that much about it, I think that they should feel free to let the University know. Maybe a solution or alternate option would be created with enough interest being noted. If not, maybe those that wrote the letter feel better because they at least tried. Maybe the athletic department doesn't give a care to what things people like and don't like, but I doubt that is the case. If they do, then what does it hurt to voice a suggestion?

Peruna2001, I think you misunderstood me. I wasn't trying to discourage suggestions in general. I was simply saying that there is no need to pass on a suggestion that the Stables serve alcohol as a private club because the athletic department has been trying to get approvals to do that for a while now. Not everything that hasn't been done is because people in charge are too daft to have thought of trying it.
And by the way, the Stables WERE for season ticket holders only as a benefit of having a season ticket. When the tent was up the past couple of years it was pretty hard to miss since it was sitting right next to the scoreboard in the open end of the stadium kind of overlapping the hill.
