EZ's Pizza and Burgers?
I came up from Houston for the Marshall game on October 14th and went north on Hillcrest after the game to go to EZ's Pizza and Burgers for a victory meal with some of my friends. When we got to the corner of Hillcrest and Northwest Highway, we found that the place was gone. Does anyone know when it closed and why? They had the best milkshakes in Dallas.

That's what I heard too. Supposedly EZ's was still alive and looking for a new location, but nothing so far.DrV 88Mustang wrote:The story I heard was that the owner of the corner lot did not renew 7-11's lease but it just happened that Southland owned the land where EZ's was. They just took over their property & then razed EZ's.
I thought the food there was good & was hoping they would reopen somewhere else in the area.

Sliders & Blues, which is located on the same corner, may soon fold its doors, too. A few weeks ago all of the cooks 'walked' just before the crowd from a Hillcrest football game showed up. Some new cooks have been hired but the service is awfully slow, the food isn't good and the beer is never cold enough. All of the ingredients for a sign that says 'closed'.

EZs started in San Antonio and there are a few of them down there. I always enjoyed going to the Dallas EZs to get a little taste of home. Most of the times that I went there, they had a line out the door. I would guess that if they can find a good spot, they will resurrect it. It seemed to have a good following.

Standard procedure for those of us on weight gaining orders was a 10:00 meal of a Kips Big Boy, order of fries and a large bowl of chili. I loved that place. After a rest and nap we would then head over to Mrs. Bairds for a "tour" and free loaf of hot bread just off the conveyor and covered in butter at about 2:00am.Peruna_Ate_My_Rolex wrote:I remember the days when there was a Kip's on the corner of Mockingbird and Greenville.MrMustang1965 wrote:Of course, EZ's (on Northwest Highway @ Hillcrest) used to be Kip's Big Boy Restaurant. obviously curfew was not in effect on those nights.mrydel wrote:free loaf of hot bread just off the conveyor and covered in butter at about 2:00am.

Kip's were spread all around Dallas in those days. The Mockingbird @ Greenville location was the closest to SMU. The building was torn down long ago to make way for a multi-story business complex on that corner. There was another located on Gaston Ave. (the building is still there...it's now a laundrymat!Peruna_Ate_My_Rolex wrote:I remember the days when there was a Kip's on the corner of Mockingbird and Greenville.MrMustang1965 wrote:Of course, EZ's (on Northwest Highway @ Hillcrest) used to be Kip's Big Boy Restaurant.
