Does anyone else feel like we are either going to barely pull out a victory in this one or we are going to get run right opff the field? If I were betting on this game I would take the moneyline for SMU to win straight up or I would take UH to win by more than 5. Not sure why but I just don't see us going down by a FG or some such in this game.

Hmm...
Houston team rushing: 1,492 yards/327 carries = 4.6 yd/carry + 20 TD
Anthony Alridge: 572 yards/51 carries = 11.2 yd/carry + 6 TD
Jackie Battle: 528 yards/119 carries = 4.4 yd/carry + 11 TD
Roshawn Pope: 241 yards/51 carries = 4.7 yd/carry
Other than our 5th string RB and QB Kevin Kolb (1.7 yd/carry for 121 yards, including sacks), no one on our team averages less than 4.2 yd/carry.
I think 4.6 yards/carry is pretty effective.

I wouldn't expect those numbers against us, if I were you. We held the #1 rushing offense in the conference to 107 yards. I think that's pretty effective.

Houston can run effectively because they set it up with the pass, not unlike we do. If our DL can control the line and let our LBs cover the short passes and our CBs play tight, we can slow them a little. If we use our LBs to stop the run like we did against ECU, it will be a long day. The defense needs to step up and be willing to risk the bomb by playing tight and taking away the quick outs and slants. The DL has to put fast pressure on Kolb to keep him from havng time to throw deep. I would rather lose 70-0 by being aggressive than lose 35-3 like we did at TT, playing lose and letting them run up and down the field. If we have to resort to constant blitzing I am afraid we will get burned. Occassionally is good but not every play.

If you think you will average 4.6 yards a carry against our front 4 then rush the football all night...it'll end up with a huge win for the Ponies...and when I see your grill on the blvd I'm gonna steal a hotdog and hamburger...how about that...

It all depends go ask Marshal and their league leading rushing how we deal with running backs.
