Full Class

Post by Stallion »

just did a little calculation on scholarship numbers. We've got somewhere between about 61-63 scholarship players coming back depending on reports of Slater and Johnson transferring. I'm sure some others will too prior to August 1-so it looks like we can take a full 25 player class this year.

Based on offers I'd say LeRibeus, Herron, Kennedy and Ganaway are solid CUSA prospects-however it looks like based on GanawayFan's hints on the recruiting board he may be headed to UH. I think Logan Turner, Kelly Turner and Terrence Wilkerson would be considered sleepers by most recruiting services. Once again, I don't see SMU involved with a large number of definite quality Division 1A prospects. Probably better so far than last year.

I don't follow recruiting as closely as many of you, so you might well have more up-to-date info than I do. But everything I've read about LeRibeus suggests that he has a ton of offers and a ton of interest from other schools. Coach West (Memphis) loves Logan Turner, and supposedly has said that if Turner was 6'4" he'd "be recruited by every school in the country." Can't find a link at the moment for verification, but I could swear I've read a lot of reports that include a TCU offer for Herron.

Try the Julian Herron thread. You crazy college kids-drinking heavily on Tuesday Nite.

I'd take this with a grain of salt, but the coach I spoke with last night said this is shaping up to be the best recruiting class post-DP.

Will be interesting to see how it all shakes out in the next couple of months.

I have never heard a coach say otherwise (sans the DP remark), and is this the same coach that told ponyexpress2007 that Bennett was gone?

To me this years recruiting class will have as much to do with the direction of the program as the results for the 2007 season. As great as a bowl would be, I would hate to put together a nice run of 2/3 straight bowls and then drop back to losing seasons due to an inability to recruit well from 2004-2006/07. I just hope Orsini is a good judge of recruiting classes.

just think how great this class could be if UTEP hadn't already got 5 commitments from players SMU offered early-I mean real early. Wow! UTEP must really be recruiting well.

Boy I'd be calling those guys again if I was PB - bloom is off the UTEP rose.

What rose? Oh, you mean "nose", as in they are picking their nose again! Despite the Sun Bowl, UTEP is a hole. Drove through El Paso twice during Thanksgiving going and coming back from Southern California to see the in-laws. Place smelled like...like...well, like a-s-s.
PB should strongly encourage those recruits to give UTEP (you knew this was coming) the Image

I'm told the number we are looking at is 23. Obviously with 7 or 8 in the can, we have some work to do over the next 7-8 weeks.
