SMU Legacy R.J. Washington Commits to OU

Post by Stallion »

...the reputed No. 1 player in the state of Texas in 2008-he is only a junior-has committed to OU. Washington plays at Keller Fossil Ridge and is the son of SMU great All SWC Russell Washington who played in the early 1980s at SMU.

I wonder how many times we pissed off his Dad since he was in school? People wonder why we can't get legacy recruits.

His dad was one of the hardest hitters I ever got hit from.

What position does his son play?

the only way to hook these kids is get them while their young before they learn SMU's real place in college football. This makes about 5-6 SMU legacies in recent years who were Top 100s -about 4 were Top 30

Saw him play last week against Aledo. There's obviously some upside. But he better have a great offseason and great 2007 if he wants to be the player OU thinks he can become. He got his butt kicked by Aledo's offensive line. That isn't shocking since Aledo's OL is extraordinary. Still, a commitment is required.

thanks for the input. Talk about being full of themselves when it comes to recruiting. What else do you need to know but that OU offered Washington before the conclusion of his Junior Year?

Just telling you what I saw. But I think that would mean I've seen him play one more time than you have, smart guy. And Aledo's rushing game broke off about 5-6 plays that covered 10+ yards. And 3 of those were on an end around on the SAME drive that went to his side, and he got his but knocked off by the tight end.

You got anything else?

you'd be pissin' in your pants if his little brother had committed to SMU-and you know it.

Right. Because if we get a kid interested at a young age, I'm sure no coach from another school would tell him about how SMU has done in recent years in an effort to get him to switch his commitment?

I don't know if Big10 knows anything about football, but he's seen him play. How many times have you reserved your judgement of a kid until you SEE HIM PLAY?

Because its more important what Bob Stoops and Mack Brown think than what Big 10 thinks. The offers and visits extended by other Division 1A Head Coaches has always been the most important factor to me. After all they are the experts in the field are they not.

HAL: Look Dave, I can see you're really upset about this. I honestly think you ought to sit down calmly, take a stress pill, and think things over.

I thought we were more concerned with what you thought than what Bob Stoops and Mack Brown thought. After all, you are Mr. Recruiting.

Since you are an attorney and like to twist stuff, here it is. I'm saying he did not play well against Aledo. He does need to get stronger. I didn't say that he was awful. Nowhere did I say that OU was nuts to offer him.

But I think all of us can agree when it come to recruiting juniors this early, your projections for three years from now better be right. And who knows if this commitment is going to stick.

we don't have a chance with any of these guys because we are NOT BCS. Anybody with any objective view of why we are not BCS will have to admit that it is primarily because of our small fan base. That's our sad reality...we did it to ourselves. Well, WE didn't do it...it happened because there aren't enough of US. Period. Long live the 1500
