that recruits do like Coach Bennett and staff:
Evidence #2:
Haynes says that it wasn't just athletics that led him to the Mustangs.
"It's a good academic school and the coaches are great," Haynes said.

Well of course guys that sign with us must like the staff. Hell, I like Bennett- he's a really nice guy. Doesn't mean that my prospects as a player for the Mustangs are something to write home about.
You're correct about projecting being able to play wherever you sign or commit. That is not, at all, the point.
This is in response to an earlier post which said something to the affect...."Man, I wish that our recruits would say that they like Bennett. It only seems to happen at other schools."

C'mon.
The point really is, why aren't mo' bettah ones liking Bennett...answer that
They might like him. They might like the assistant coaches.
But that may not be enough to overcome a dismal record, a possible new coach within two years, high school coaches calling SMU a "small school", other coaches calling SMU a "dead-end job" or a "laughingstock". Or the fact that those "mo' bettah" players might just prefer a BCS school, or a school that has some of the previously mentioned that SMU lacks.
Hate to fall into the Stallion trap, but committments should not be measured in speeches. It is indeed the model, stupid.

I can't believe I just said that.

Agian, I agree.
I am not offering anything but evidence that players do and should like and "relate" to the coaches at whatever University they choose.
Post from yesterday: "I have heard many TCU recruits say things like McCoy did today-that is that Patterson [or his assistants] were the only coaches that he could really relate to."
Our recruits do, in fact, say very similar things about SMU. That being said, no recruit should pick any University because of a coach. Just ask any Rice Owl recruit.
