DT Don'Tay Ward Reportedly Leaves Tech Program

Post by Stallion »

he was a 5.5 3 star last year 6-2, 291 from Waco. Although SMU and several others reportedly offered last year he didn't get his test score until after signing date. Initially committed to Baylor. If his academics were in order this is the kind of kid we could really use. Probably see him every year wearing Purple. Actually SMU was the only school on his offer list which isn't in the Big 12-and a rule prohibits intra Big 12 transfers.

Coach's discretion whether to give a player an unconditional release-often they won't release to a team on their future schedule. Leach refused to release that RB who wanted to go to TCU but ended up All-SEC at Alabama a few years ago.

Shaud Williams I remember playing against him in HS. We werer watching film on him he actually leaped over his standing OT on his way to the end zone it was impresive, he just got screwed when leach came in and changed the offense.

If anyone here, other than me, has ever watched Da Ali G show on HBO...Sasha Cohen's gay character (Bruno) goes to an Alabama football game, and ended up interviewing Shaud Williams. Definitely one of the funnier skits in the show

Looks like Ward could go to Houston according to FWST:

Tech DT seeks transfer
Texas Tech freshman defensive tackle Dan'Tay Ward has asked for his release from the school, but it has not been granted yet. Ward wants to transfer to Houston, but coach Mike Leach has a policy of not releasing transfers to other Division I-A schools in Texas.

While he did not want to go into specifics, Ward said he had "differences with somebody on the coaching staff."

He will have three years of eligibility should he transfer.

Ward had 12 tackles with one for a loss and a quarterback hurry this season. Tech's top three defensive tackles this season were seniors.
